International Day for Biological Diversity 2022

This year, the International Day for Biological Diversity highlighted the importance of “Building a shared future for all life”. Wetland ecosystems are the hotspots of adverse change and wetland-dependent species are most at-risk and declining faster than that of terrestrial ecosystems.

We invite you to read our position on the urgent need for the inclusion of wetland ecosystems in the Global Biodiversity Framework targets for the recovery and safeguarding of our remaining wetlands by 2030.

WORLD MIGRATORY BIRD DAY


World Migratory Bird Day (May 14th) is an annual awareness-raising campaign that highlights the need for the conservation of migratory birds and the threats they face, their ecological importance and the need for international cooperation to conserve them.

On the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity, our South Asia office launched a summary report on the "Asian Waterbird Census 2022: Results of Mid-winter Count by Biodiversity Management Committees and Asian Waterbird Census Network”.

An Africa-wide platform is being established to create a forum for collaboration, regular exchanges, learning and sharing of solutions to challenges faced by mangrove forests.

Our Aquarela Pantanal initiative, which promotes the recovery of degraded areas in Brazil was featured in broadcast news Jornal Hoje.

Collaborative Partnership to Restore Lamu’s Degraded Mangroves 
The Kenya Forest Service (KFS), together with the community, Wetlands International, and other partners launched a campaign to restore degraded mangrove areas in the southern block of Lamu. Learn more here.
