8th grade students and families:
As we walk through the last four days of school, we would like to remind you of a few upcoming activities and events for the 8th grade students.
Textbooks and Chromebooks:
All textbooks and Chromebooks must be returned no later than Tuesday, June 7th. Students will receive Chromebooks at Samohi in the fall or in the summer if they are attending summer school.
Promotion Rehearsal:
Wednesday, June 8, 2022, during school hours in the Performing Arts Theater.
Students will run through the entire promotion ceremony to know which teacher they are walking with for the promotion ceremony.
8th Grade Promotion Ceremony:
Thursday, June 9, 2022
1st ceremony 9:00 am (last names A-L) - Students should arrive no later than 8:15 am.
2nd ceremony 11:30 am (last names M-Z) – Students should arrive no later than 10:45 am.
Parking may be limited in the immediate area, so plan to share a ride and allow time to park. Each eligible student was eligible to receive 3 tickets. If you requested extra tickets, and they are available, they will be in the envelope that is delivered to your child. Tickets will be passed out on Monday and Tuesday, June 6 and 7 in science classes. Every guest, regardless of age, MUST have a ticket to enter the Performing Arts Theater. This includes infants and children even if you plan to have them sit on your lap. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis. Food, drink, balloons, banners and flowers will not be allowed in the theater.

Textbooks and Library Books Are Due
All books (library books and textbooks) were due to the library by May 27th. Students can check their school email for overdue library book notices or stop by the library to see what materials they need to return.
Students who have lost a book may bring in a replacement copy.
JAMS Mock Trial Team Needs You!
Looking for two attorneys who are interested in coaching next year’s mock trial team. The competition is run by the Constitutional Rights Foundation. The work is done from August through November and takes up a few hours a week. It is incredibly fun and rewarding to watch our students become little lawyers! If you are interested or want to learn more, please reach out to Julie Waterstone at jwaterstone@swlaw.edu.
LOST AND FOUND
All lost and found items will be bagged and donated the morning of Wednesday, June 8th. Please remind your child to pick up any lost items, and/ or come by yourself to check for missing items. The lost and found is located just inside the front entrance to the school, you can't miss it.
Summer Science Camps at JAMS
Summer Science Camp registration is open for incoming 6-8th JAMS Students. All information is on the JAMS webpage at https://jamssciencemagnet.org/summer-science-camp
Camps are open to ALL incoming JAMS 6-8th graders as long as space is available. Please contact your current science teacher for more information. Incoming 6th grade parents can email tlevin@smmusd.org with questions.
We're also looking for parent volunteers to help with lunch.
PACIFIC BLUE MUSIC CAMP (August 1-5, 2022)!
Announcing the 24th Annual Pacific Blue Music Camp! After a two-summer hiatus, we are back!!! This popular music day camp welcomes middle school instrumental music students to “jump start” the 2022-23 school year with great music-making and fun! In addition, Pacific Blue is an ideal transitional activity for rising 6th grade musicians to “preview” an authentic middle school band and orchestra environment.
Pacific Blue will take place at John Adams Middle School from Monday, Aug. 1 – Friday, Aug. 5, 2022 from9:00am – 12:00pm. Optional enrichment sessions will be offered from 1:00 – 3:00pm.
