  • Mergon Foundation - financial support for various school projects and our SSCC Team
  • Acorn Private Equity - financial support for the SSCC Team and projects
  • SMD Technologies and Sharp - donations and support towards the Nomzamo Calculator Drive
  • City of Cape Town - support for the Nomzamo Recycling Project
  • The Bookery, Lions Club, ATKV, Iphepha for Pupils & others - support towards our Library and Literacy Projects
  • HEY! and Truth2Kids - training local facilitators to share the Gospel in the schools
  • De Hoop Primary School - support with venues and school projects
  • Various businesses from our local community - donating gifts towards our Fundraisers.
THANK YOU, WE APPRECIATE AND TREASURE ALL THESE WONDERFUL PEOPLE AND RELATIONSHIPS.

BUSINESS BREAKFAST FEEDBACK

SSCC hosted
our first Business breakfast at the Erinvale Country & Golf Estate Club House, on 20 April 2022. Business owners, principals and other guests had the opportunity to network and enjoy a scrumptious breakfast in a beautiful setting.  A special thank you to Juanita Moller for spearheading this event.

Our speakers, Dr Colin Habberton, Vonnie Mostert & Tania Theron, shared some valuable information and from personal experience in their businesses. They motivated and challenged us to all play our part towards a greater Social Impact in South Africa, amidst our many challenges.

A couple of guests shared their experiences with us:
I went without any expectations, but was really touched by the “business with a purpose” model. I also had the opportunity to network with people that could open doors for new business opportunities in the near future.
Jak de Priester

Apart from the neat way in which the Business Breakfast was presented, the enthusiasm of the SSCC team about their upliftment projects in the Helderberg Basin, was clearly visible. This team’s approach towards the projects testified of their confidence in the possible impact of their efforts.

It was wonderful to hear about so many businesses who care for our community and who reach out to less privileged people. Also to  hear about “fruit” in the form of a young lady, Me. Sinazo Mau Mau - a former learner from Nomzamo High School, currently doing her LLB at Miller Bosman Le Roux Attorneys and the testimony about the young man, supported by a local business, who can now further his studies at Cape Town University.

STRONG SCHOOLS SUPPORT HUBS

"Great discoveries and improvements invariably involve
the cooperation of many minds."

Alexander Graham Bell

Juanita Möller, SSCC Hub coordinator and Co-Coo opened the second term’s Support Hub meetings with the words containing above, describing the value of the Support Hubs.

At the first Support Hub meetings in February, each school identified its priorities according their School Improvement Plan (SIP) for 2022. This round, the people around the table had the opportunity to suggest possible ways to support the schools and shared some creative plans. Juanita also encouraged the attendees with the words of Henry Ford: "If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself."

SSCC can only fully support and multiply our impact in the schools through collaborations with our community members and businesses in the Helderberg Basin and by sharing goals, tasks and resources. A special word of thanks to Liana Lourens of the Dutch Reforemd Church, Strand for your hospitality and for making your facilities available to host our Support Hubs.

CALCULATORS DONATED to NOMZAMO HIGH SCHOOL

A calculator is a basic requirement for learners to do Mathematics, Science and Accountancy, to do homework and to prepare for tests and exams. Sadly, most of  the Grade 8 to 12 learners of Nomzamo High School do not own one.

Thanks to friends of Strong Schools, Sharp, SMD Technology, Mergon Foundation and De Hoop Primary School, who took our hands to equip 105 learners with calculators.

All the Grade 10, 11 and 12 learners of Nomzamo High School taking Pure Mathematics as a subject, now have their own calculators.

Thank you to people from our community who donated pre-loved calcualators, Iphepa for Pupils who donated
10 calculators and the Mergon Foundation who donated money to buy another 70.

There are approximately another 900 learners who still need calcualators. You can help them to reach this goal by

donating used scientific calculators from your home or office, or by donating money. SMD Technology also donated 60 calculators and have committed to support Nomzamo High School by donating a calculator for every one we buy.
Please use Ref: CALCULATOR DRIVE when donating towards this project.

Thank you to our new committed volunteer and part-time team member, Fefe Ngaye, who managed  the handovers.

STATIONERY DRIVE

When community members take hands, we multiply our impact.

De Hoop Primary School demonstrated this when their prefects supported a Strong Schools stationery drive.

The leaders of Dr GJ Joubert Primary School, Nicole Wilson and Richiano Smith (left), met the head prefects of De Hoop Primary School, Stephan Malan and Dania Horn (right) and handed over the stationery.

A big thank you to Mr Wynand Cillié, Abri du Plessis, Vanessa Helders and Pierre Labuschagne, the prefects, parents, and learners from De Hoop Primary School for supporting this initiative.

WALK WITH A PURPOSE

11 Netball players from Dr GJ Joubert Primary School were blessed with sport shoes, donated by Tania Theron from Walk with a Purpose. This initiative is supported by the GraySwan Charitable Trust.

It represents much more than just donating shoes and will remind the girls that each one of them is special and was created for a special purpose. They can now walk with a purpose and jump high to score a goal for their netball team!
