Celebrations in the Vale of Pewsey
There are so many events coming up - and not just in celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee!

This year we also celebrate the 50th year of the creation of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) - a recognised, nationally important landscape with the Pewsey Vale making up about a third or so of the overall area.  The North Wessex Downs 50th Anniversary Walking Festival will be taking place between 11th and 26th June and will have group walks taking place all over the AONB.

There are quite a few walks to enjoy in the Vale of Pewsey, so have a look at the AONB website and book your place now.

We also celebrate the 200th birthday of Wilton Windmill.  Built in 1821, it is actually its 201st year, but because of Covid, celebrations have been delayed.  There's a Murder Mystery & Hog Roast on 18th June and then a Big Birthday Bash on Saturday 30th July with food, drink, music, Morris Dancers, falconry displays, magic, Punch & Judy, games for children and adults - and lots more!

The Merchant's House in Marlborough celebrated its 30th anniversary as a museum and shop in 2021 as well, so another delayed anniversary this year, with plenty of events to enjoy.

So let's raise a glass of Pewsey Vale's award-winning Southcott Brut to all our national treasures who are celebrating a milestone -
to Her Majesty The Queen, The North Wessex Downs, Wilton Windmill and The Merchant's House!
If you’re taking part in the North Wessex Downs Walking Festival during June, ensure your feet are in tip-top condition by booking a Medi-Pedi with us. Quote ‘Visit Pewsey Vale’ when you book and save 20% on your next Medi-Pedi appointment.

A Medi-Pedi at Equilibrium will aim to address foot care and health concerns while providing the relaxing experience you’d expect from a pedicure. If you suffer from cracked heels, dry, rough or peeling skin on your feet, toenail fungus or discoloured toenails, foot odour or sweaty feet, it’s the treatment for you.
Ideal for both men and women, recommended for walkers and runners, and safe for diabetics.
Call us on 01672 851212 to book your appointment. Offer available for first appointments booked during June 2022.
We have three long-distance, multi-day walking or cycling routes for you to enjoy.
The eastern half of the Mid-Wilts Way, the Kennet & Avon Canal (Hungerford to Devizes) and our new route, the Pewsey Vale Circular Way.

And if you'd like to see what the Pewsey Vale Circular Way has in store, then have a look at our videos!

Reminder about Safety
Many of our farms in the Vale of Pewsey have livestock and spring is the key time of year for lambs and calves to be out in the fields.  Make sure you give the livestock space as they look after their young.
If you are walking with a dog, please ensure that you have your dog(s) in sight and under control at all times and on a lead wherever you encounter livestock.  It is against the law for your dog to worry or attack livestock.
Make sure you have read the Countryside Code for guidance or have a look at the NFU's advice on walking close to livestock.

Holiday hires are self-crewed and full training is provided (moderate cost) for those new to canal boating.

The boats are also available for day hire, complete with a skipper and crew for up to 12 people.  Day hires start at 10am from the Wharf in Great Bedwyn (free parking) returning at around 4pm.  You have full use of the kitchen on board to prepare lunch which means you can either bring your own picnic or choose to prepare a hot lunch.

Book your place on the Cocklebury Farm Family Walk!

As part of the North Wessex Downs 50th Anniversary Walking Festival, this walk promises to be a really interesting guided walk around Cocklebury Farm, right on the banks of the Kennet & Avon Canal.  Laura and her family have been working hard on conservation and sustainability, whilst creating fabulous self-catering accommodation on their working farm.

This is Laura's sustainability and conservation story:
Habitat - We have planted miles of hedging, left acres of natural habitat, built ponds and wildlife corridors, installed owl boxes, bat boxes, swallow cups and our stable conversion holiday lets have special bat roost built in all along the ridge line! And much more.
Dark Skies - We are working hard to protect the amazing dark skies in our area with down-ward facing, motion activated and timed, minimal lighting
Waste - We have special biodiscs to treat waste on site which run into extensive natural reedbed systems
Chemicals - Minimal use of chemicals. No artificial fertilisers etc. This protects our insect ecosystem, soil, and keeps our water at a high quality.
Supporting Local - Local tradesmen used for conversion works including skilled joiners for windows and doors. In life we have many local partners and buy and encourage the buying of local produce!
Make sure you visit .....
..... Honeystreet Mill
On the Kennet & Avon Canal, Honeystreet Mill is a great find!
Visit Honeystreet Mill Cafe for delicious food in a relaxed space and where they are welcoming to walkers and love well-behaved dogs.  Browse the beautiful fairtrade products at The India Shop.  Newly opened in May is Honeystreet Mill Farm Shop with lots of fairtrade and locally sourced produce.  And make sure you visit the Crop Circle Information Centrre & Exhibition as well.
It's an ideal stop off for our Alton Barnes White Horse walk.
