Foster Spotlight: Nero
Nero was found as a stray at five/six weeks old and was brought to his local shelter.  The shelter initially thought he was blind, but it turns out that was not the case!  Nero loves to explore, run and play with any toy he can get ahold of, or any of the other dogs. He is very food motivated and learns quickly. He enjoys wrestling with the other dogs and chewing on all toys or anything he can find. He is very cuddly when he is calm. He sleeps in his crate at night and is doing really well at potty training. He crawls under them as well. Nero is very outgoing, feisty, does not like being by himself, will steal food or toys from any of the others, and has no fear. He also likes to eat as fast as doggy possible!

Update:  Nero is doing amazing. He is not going to be a medium dog though. He is going to be a large dog. He is between 50-60 pounds and will be 6 months old at the beginning of May. He is stubborn, but is eager to learn with treats and consistent training.  He knows “leave it”, “come”, “sit”, and “down”. He walks well on a leash with a harness and we are working on “with me”. He is a very active dog and loves to constantly play (even plays gently with the smaller puppies) and be around people. He still cuddles and loves scratches behind his ears which gets his legs kicking.  He is crate trained and also eats breakfast and dinner in his crate. He gets super excited to meet people but has never jumped up on anyone. Nero is a vaccine reactor so will require Benadryl and most likely a steroid when given vaccines. He also is extremely sore after them and usually refuses to move for the rest of day.

Homeward Bound: Izzy
Izzy’s new family says they are so happy with her!   Izzy is learning to be independent, learning to walk down the hallway, into and out from the elevator and such in the apartment building. She now has a cute little hop over the ledge getting into the elevator.  Izzy is a great cuddler and everyone who meets her falls in love.  It is so nice to know that this young family is loving on this little, blind, senior girl!
Available for Adoption: Hathaway
Hathaway is a very sweet and extremely clingy and cuddly dog who really just wants to lay in your lap and be with you. His small size makes him the perfect couch companion but he is very very good in his kennel and does not bark or cry at all. He enjoys his stuffed animal but isn't a big player with toys. He completely loves the two cats and two Weimaraners in the foster home. He loves his belly to be rubbed and kisses everywhere.

He is a very brave baby but does like to be assured that his beloved person is nearby. He is always happy and never seems bothered by anything even though his heartworm meds make him feel icky. He is a gentleman with food and treats and walks on a leash like a champ. Hathaway is seriously the perfect dog.... he just wants love and attention...he walks when you walk, sleeps when you sleep and goes with the flow.

Hathaway has the sweetest little prance when he walks and he looks like he is dancing everywhere he goes. He is extremely gentle with his humans and his foster siblings and we can only imagine how happy he will be with his forever home. See more about Hathaway here!

Rainbow Bridge
BDRA adopters and volunteers recently said goodbye to these beloved dogs.
Willow was adopted in 2017 and would send her own update:
"It's me.... WILLOW....sending you my annual update. I continue to be my Mother's pride and joy...as always!
I've gotten a new dog stroller...better than the one I had before. I get tired every now and then and need a ride. Boy do I love that thing....but MOM makes sure I get out to walk....which keeps me agile and healthy. Unfortunately my vision has changed....which was to be expected. Originally I could see some light...therefore see shadows. That has faded now and I'm completely blind. But I've adapted really well and never bump into anything. I'm really no different than before....but I DO like to be around my MOM more. She's home all day except when she needs to go to the store or Doctor. She's a real HOME BODY and I LOVE that!!
I still LOVE being petted by my neighbors and people we meet on our walks....that will never change. I still sleep in bed with her at night but during the day opt to sleep beside her on the sofa.... foregoing the four dog beds I used to use. We had to put our cat, Bradley down due to illness at age 16.....so now it's just me and MOM. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to have a really nice home and MOM! I'm VERY happy....see the VET 2x per year plus the Optometrist. I continue to keep my MOM active and healthy....we walk for 2 hours in the winter and up to 4 or 5 hours in the warmer weather when it's light out. I just LOVE the outdoors!
If you need any more info... don't hesitate to ask! Looking forward to writing to you next year!! Bye for now!!"
Stormy was adopted in 2021 and passed away in April. Her adoptive mom said that Stormy “is a joy and a snuggle bug. So glad she got to share this part of her life with us. She is a comedian when it's dinner time.”
