This month the Sunshine Coast Chamber Alliance launched a special series of videos that explores business through the eyes of four award-winning Sunshine Coast entrepreneurs from their Humble Beginnings to Making the Future.
The series called “Let’s be Frank about Business”, supported by Sunshine Coast Council’s Community Grants Program, is timely for Queensland Small Business Month, and gives the community a rare glimpse into the inner workings of these businesses, offering tips that are relevant across all industries.
With Queensland Small Business Month this year celebrating the sector’s resurgence after the impacts of Covid-19 and flood events, some of the insights offered by our entrepreneurs are particularly relevant, while also offering some much-needed inspiration as well.

THE BIG DAY IN SUNSHINE COAST
The BiG Day In Sunshine Coast Tech careers event went really well at Venue 114 on May 5, attracting around 300 students and teachers. The program featured speakers and exhibitors from the local tech industry showing how to further STEM or Tech careers right here on the Sunshine Coast.
Strengthening Business is a service to assist disaster affected businesses. Our facilitators can talk through your business’ disaster recovery challenges with you – where your business was, where it is now, and where you want it to be in the immediate, medium and long-term.
Now more than ever retailers need an understanding of digital marketing in order to thrive in today’s environment. Council have partnered with Dash of Milk Agency, whom have developed a 12 week custom program targeted to the retail community on the Sunshine Coast, to increase confidence and understanding of the online space, and how you can best utilise it for your brand.
Sunshine Coast Council in partnership with the Sunshine Coast Tech Industry Alliance, Silicon Coast and the Sunshine Coast Screen Collective, hosted 120 local industry at a business breakfast at Venue 114 on May 18 focused on Our Tech Future.
With a keynote presentation by Kate Jones, Executive Director of the Tech Council Australia and panel discussion facilitated by Professor Sarah Pearson, the conversation centred around how the Sunshine Coast can position itself as a National and Global tech hub.

Tech is more than just an industry, it is a key enabler across all industries.
Sunshine Coast Council has identified Tech and Screen as emerging high growth industries. The link between the two lies in their need for fast data movement, skilled talent, and their convergence with creative industries.
Council investment in game-changing infrastructure such as the International Broadband Cable, Data Centre, Maroochydore City Centre and Sunshine Coast Airport expansion means the region is now well positioned to develop and attract these industries.
The region is already home to a number of innovative and growing Tech and Screen businesses, collaboration is now key to forwarding these industries.
There is no other industry that has the potential to drive inclusivity across culture, age, gender, physical ability and neurodiversity than Tech.

This one-off industry event provides information on government programs and support services for the biotechnology sector, followed by a networking session including invited biotechnology leaders.
Suitable for medical, health, food and agriculture manufacturers, technology providers, researchers and entrepreneurs, this forum aims to provide access to inspirational industry speakers and innovative manufacturing practices.
The USC Business Planning Course is free and designed to provide local business owners with a clear understanding of the key factors that underpin their success and are critical to their long-term survival.
Participating in this course, comprised of a series of workshops, provides a platform for business owners to survive and thrive by adopting and implementing strategic management principles, thereby lowering the rate of business failure.

More than 200 disability sports industry professionals will join the inaugural Sunshine Coast Sports Symposium at the University of Sunshine Coast (USC) on June 15-17.
Presented by Disability Sports Australia and proudly supported by Sunshine Coast Council and USC, the National Disability Sports Conference on June 16 will headline the event bringing together leaders in sport, disability, education, allied health, government and community.
They will discuss the importance of collaboration to break down the barriers to sport and physical activity participations of Australians with disabilities.

Sports officials set to converge at Australian first summit
Referees, umpires, judges and more will join the Sunshine Coast Officiating Summit at the University of the Sunshine Coast on July 16 & 17, and will be the first of its kind delivered in Australia.
Participants will hear from specialists on nutrition, psychology, recovery, mental health, conflict resolution, decision making, personal branding, financial management, coaching and mentoring.
Responsible for the content, schedule and the presenters, the Officiating Collective will be utilising their globally recognised specialists, together with support from some Sport Tech companies and some amazing guest speakers to provide 2 days of education and training like no other.
There was a huge local response to the expressions of interest process for The Curated (side) Plate resulting in 85 events managed by 37 different organisers, with more businesses expected to join the broad menu of events and culinary experiences over the coming weeks. The 85 participating events will utilise an array of local produce and event services of more than 170 Sunshine Coast businesses – all set to be on show to locals, intrastate, interstate and international visitors with more than 5000 tickets available to the various schedule of events across the 10-day period.
