The Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation is having an essay contest for high school and college students. The top prize is $500 US, and the requirement is to write a 500-750 word essay on the following prompt:

Much of economics, and life, is the study of unintended consequences. Such is the case with the Green Movement. In your essay, analyze an initiative, local, national, or global, aimed at protecting the earth and elucidate its unintended consequences. In the long run, does this initiative backfire and harm the earth? Does it disrupt the economy? Does it hinder the growth of developing countries? Perhaps it has unexpected benefits! Does it create jobs? Does it improve the reliability of electricity? Does it improve agriculture and create more food? You tell us!

Contest rules including information on how to submit your essay can be found here
