thirds.
What looked like a real cracking game on paper, with team’s 2nd & 3rd on the ladder turned out to be that way.
Both teams would have felt confident going into the game, and when the siren started it was on, Garfield settled a lot better than we did in the slippery conditions and had a few chances to kick some early goals but luckily for us didn’t capitalise. What opportunities we had going forward, we were able to take our chances and went into the 1st break only 1 goal behind.
The 2nd quarter was a lot more even and both teams had moments of control, both scoring an equal number of points to have Garfield still 1 goal ahead at the main break.
The conditions continued to improve and in the 3rd quarter we were able to take advantage on a few plays and hit the scoreboard a bit more than Garfield and went into 3/4 time 1 point ahead.
The last quarter was just a show of strength & effort by 2 teams that threw everything at it and didn’t leave anything behind, with it going down to the wire, both teams only scored 1 goal each in the hustle and bustle of the last quarter, but we also got an extra point, so we were able to hold on to win by 2 points. The coaches were very proud of the whole team’s effort on the day and that we were able to grind out another strong win for their teammates & the club.
There were so many great moments through the game, some players that performed well over the match were, Ben Baird through the midfield and down back with his effort and courage, Jacob Percy started forward but went down back to help settle our side and was a great contributor, Logan Fox gave great effort and hardness around the ball, Oliver Sail continued to work tirelessly in the ruck, Kade Perkins had his best game for the year with some great forward runs & Kai McMinimee played his 1st game for our side and was a solid contributor.
On to Daylston now for the next challenge.
