Dear Colleagues,

In this month’s newsletter we feature a new blog from the PEERSS Trinidad and Tobago team at the Caribbean Centre for Health Systems Research. In the blog, the team shares insights from their work to strengthen the capacities of four social sector ministries in evidence informed decision making. Finally, check out what the Coordinating Organization (CO) team is reading, and save the date for an upcoming webinar (June 22nd) in which PEERSS country partners will describe how they are using stakeholder dialogues and citizen panels to inform policy solutions.

Sincerely,

PEERSS’ Coordinating Organization (Results for Development)

Advancing the Use of Research Evidence in Decision-Making in the Social Protection System: Strengthening the Capacity at Four Social Sector Ministries in Trinidad and Tobago

Check out the latest blog by the PEERSS Trinidad and Tobago team discussing how they are strengthening the use of evidence informed decision-making in the social systems by improving the capacities of four social sector ministries! This blog describes the needs assessment exercise they used to understand perspectives and approaches to evidence use and staff training needs. With this information the team designed a training session that emphasized joint learning and will provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to ministry staff.

PEERSS Columbia Partner The Unit of Evidence and Deliberation for Decision Making (UNED) at the Facility of Medicine at the University of Antioquia uses global and local evidence to produce evidence synthesis and conduct deliberative dialogues to inform the formulation of health policies and improve the health outcomes of Columbia’s population. The team’s recent activities include a living evidence synthesis on the effectiveness of available COVID-19 vaccines for children and adolescents, conducted in partnership with McMaster University, the University of Ottawa, and COVID-END and being used by the Public Health Agency of Canada. Updates to the evidence synthesis are made in English and Spanish every 15 days on the COVID-END website and twitter. Read about the importance of living evidence here.

A Global Movement for Engaged Research | Angela Bednarek and Vivian Tseng

“This is the story of how we came to see such engaged research as a method to bring together government, civil society, and communities to shape research agendas for their needs and grounded in their expertise, as well as to foster their uses of research to drive policy and practice to benefit society”. In this blog, the authors reflect on how they’ve come together through a shared purpose to establish a network of funding programs with a vision of expanding engaged research and evidence use around the world.
