JUNE 2022

June has arrived along with sunshine, flowers, blossoming trees, and children’s laughter as they anticipate summer vacation!

Your S.W.A.P. Team is very excited to share lots of good news with you.

  • Our Seniors committed to raise $5,000.00 for the Youth Camp Hume/Camp Tadmor fund for summer camps.  (The big goal was $20,000.00)  YOU CONTRIBUTED JUST UNDER ONE FOURTH OF THE TOTAL…the latest figure I was told was $5,600.00 and funds from Seniors were still arriving!  (Total given to date is over and above goal --- $26,000.00!)

Someone asked where all this money goes.Camp costs about $700.00/student.Many pay their own way; some get a partial or full scholarship.(We are sending about 60 students = $42,000.00 base)In addition, we need $$ to get them there (buses, drivers, food, and lodging) so believe me, your donation is well spent.

I’m going to stop here and share our interview of the month.  We asked John Krill, our youth pastor, to give you info about him and his life. (There’s more to come after learning all about John so keep reading!)

Thanks for the opportunity.!

Hey Seniors, my name is John Krill. I grew up in Beaverton Oregon with my Mom my Dad and my three sisters (My dad and I were outnumbered). I’m also a triplet with two of my sisters and I was born first!

Your occupation and/or past occupation
I was previously a Youth pastor at a previous Church, but also have had several other jobs. I was a berry picker (probably my highest strength), PE Teacher, Behavioral Specialist, Landscaper, Mail Man, Computer Salesman, and an Operations Co-Director at a Christian camp!

How long have you been worshiping/employed at GCF?  What do you enjoy most about GCF?
I’ve been worshiping and employed at GCF since July 8th, 2021! I love the authenticity and Biblical emphasis of the people.

When did you decide to follow Jesus?  When do you feel He became the main focus of your life?  What do you consider His calling for your service to him and the world?

I gave my life to Christ in college after attending CRU service at OSU my freshman year. I was a catholic before and turned to an atheist before I found God in college. God told me I didn’t know the truth about the medial world (I was going to be a physical therapist) but I know the truth In the Bible and I should preach that.

If you could give one bit of advice to Senior’s what would it be?

I’m not in any place to give advice, but I’d just say don’t underestimate your age with youth and younger individuals. People are craving real discipleship and people to invest in their lives. I bet you’d be surprised how much of a desire a Godly senior is needed in a young person’s life right now.

In Christ,
John Krill

  • ARE YOU INTERESTED IN SHARING THE GOSPEL WITH YOUNGER FOLKS?  We’ve learned that grey hair is an asset!  Each Friday evening at 10:00 pm (yes, 10:00 PM) some folks gather in downtown Eugene for ‘Street Evangelism on Fridays’. Don’t let the name scare you. It’s simply visiting with the adults hanging around with nothing to do.  They would love to have you hear their story and listen to yours. Contact Rick Rencher @ 541-520-0609.  He’ll give you the details and tell you about his wonderful experiences.

  • June 23 @ 4:00pm – (Yes, it’s an odd time but that worked with the lawyers presenting it)  ESTATE PLANNING.  Even if you have your estate and end of life planning in place, we encourage you to attend to find out about any changes in laws and to share up to date info with friends and neighbors.  In fact, bring them along!

Justus T McCann, Attorney at Law, will be sharing the following five points with us:
  1. What happens if you pass away without a will or trust
  2. What is probate and how does it work.
  3. What are the benefits of a will
  4.  What are the benefits of a revocable living trust
  5. Methods to avoid probate without a trust

IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE NOTHING IN YOUR ESTATE, YOU’RE WRONG! Do you wish to pass assets to another person? Own a car? A house? Personal household items?A bank account?See, you do have an estate! WATCH YOUR EMAIL FOR FURTHER INFO.

  • July 24 is for FUN!  We’re planning a POTLUCK PICNIC UNDER THE TENT @ 5:00pm.  More details in July’s newsletter

  • August 27/28 will bring us an opportunity to help out with Project Hope.  Mark your calendar now.  Details coming soon.

  • A few of other areas Pastor Steve Hill has asked for help in are:

  • We need folks to be available in the back of the auditorium at the end of Sunday services to pray with people after the service.

  • We need volunteers to help organize Project Hope

  • We need someone to make phone calls on a regular basis to welcome new attendees to Grace.  Just a quick call to let them know they are valued will mean the world to that person.  (If you are semi-housebound this may be the ministry God has special for you!)

  • Are you interested in helping others in their home after surgery or when ‘under the weather’?  This would mainly be sitting with them for a few hours a day, fixing a meal or two, and keeping fresh water at the bedside.  We have a great need in this area.

For any of the above items please contact Keith Sherman -keithsherman153@gmail.com or 541-954-2231.

I Peter 4:10“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God,If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.”

Guess that’s about it for June. Enjoy our wonderful Oregon mild weather now. July’s heat is coming too soon!
