30 Days of Freedom from Same-Sex Bondage; Ex-Gays Share their Stories

PRIDE month ignores the destructive nature of
homosexuality and sexual brokenness
Sandpoint, IDAHO (June 1) – “The entire month of June is earmarked as an opportunity to celebrate PRIDE; the LGBTQ onslaught of parades, flags, merchandising, film festivals, art exhibits, marches, and concerts,” says Stephen Black, an ex-gay and now director of First Stone Ministries.

As we enter June, hundreds of retailers and businesses push gay pride – Wells Fargo, Delta Airlines, Target, Recreational Equipment (REI), Disney, IKEA, Gap, Cola Cola, and Apple to name a few. Black is one of the thousands of ex-gays who have been set free from pride, from an unhealthy lifestyle and embraced their sexual brokenness. “Most of the people who struggle with same-sex attraction do not make the choice to be same-sex attracted” explains Black, “but they can experience genuine freedom.”

The PRIDE movement is anything but a “gay,” or happy lifestyle according to those who have come out of it. The higher rates of sexually transmitted diseases, suicide, substance abuse, domestic violence, and depression are only a few of the side-effects. Those who have been set free by the power of Christ, are sharing their testimonies throughout the month of June, an obvious reminder that change is possible.

Ex-gays like Joe Dallas, Stephen Black, David Kyle Foster, Daren Mehl and Cari Gintz (ex-lesbian), Laura Perry Smalts (ex-transgender), and Denise Shick give a different side the PRIDE. There has been an attempt to normalize and embrace behavior that is self-destructive and sinful. Therapeutic counseling for people who want to leave the lifestyle has been shut down in some cities leaving those who struggle with same-sex attraction without help. Black and his colleagues believe this is leading to higher rates of suicide and hopelessness.

The good news is that there is hope and this is found in Christ. Their stories, their testimonies of coming from darkness into light are the greatest threat to PRIDE.
