Clare Valley Tourism Update

It has certainly been a busy few weeks. Congratulations to the Clare Valley Wine & Grape Association for once again presenting a fabulous Gourmet Week 2022.

The South Australian Tourism Commission have been up in the region attending various events throughout the Gourmet Week  and we also hosted Pippa & Gavin Wanganeen - 'People of Influence' - when they were up here getting imagery for a collaborative digital marketing program.

Then a huge thank you to all the operators who attended the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse workshop at the Clare Valley Wine, Food & Tourism Centre. There were a record number of operators in attendance and the information received was invaluable.

The South Australian Tourism Commission have recently released their figures from 1 January - 31 December 2021. Clare Valley Tourism Region you have done yourselves proud by surpassing both the Regional Visitor Strategy 2025 and the South Australian Visitor Economy Sector Plan 2030 targets.

Clare Valley Tourism Experience Development Forum

The Clare Valley Tourism Experience Development Forum will be held on Tuesday, 5 July 2022, at the Clare Town Hall, Main Street, Clare.

The forum is being run in conjunction with The Adelaide Business Hub (ASBAS Program) and with the support of the Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council.

Hayden Zammit from Tourism Accelerator will set the scene and be our MC on the day. He, along with Miranda Lang - SATC, Sophie Treasure - Tourism Australia and Dougal McFuzzlebut - Experience SA, RAA, will walk us through ideas and strategies for the industry to use when designing experiences to keep travellers in our region for longer.

These presenters will be joined by a panel of operators who are currently (or have previously) delighting their guests by developing customer based experiences.

Finally, we would like to give four people | businesses | operators | the opportunity to present their BIG IDEA to our expert panel for their feedback and the chance to win a suite of prizes to support them in bringing their BIG IDEA to fruition. If this sounds like you please contact Mim Ward at tourism@yorkeandmidnorth.com.au for further details.

Presentations for the BIG IDEA only need to be about 5 minutes long - so not as daunting as it sounds!!!

Clare Valley Regional Visitor Strategy 2025 Progress Snapshot

As stated, the Clare Valley Tourism Region has had a fabulous result against the targets set in the Regional Visitor Strategy 2025. The 2025 target set for tourist expenditure was $132m. This target was surpassed in the middle of 2021 and the final expenditure total for the end of December 2021 was $174m.

We've had a huge response from intrastate visitors since the region was re-opened in June 2019 and this is now being supported by interstate numbers.

The results from 1 January - 31 December 2021 can be found here.

A new version of the Regional Visitor Strategy 2025 including a message from the current Minister for Tourism, Hon Zoe Bettison is also available. Regional Visitor Strategy | Tourism SA

The above results reflect that the marketing initiatives undertaken by the South Australian Tourism Commission - the ‘Great State Vouchers’ and the ‘Tourism Industry Development Fund’ initiatives - have proven successful by supporting businesses to maintain and grow their tourism offerings despite the challenges across our sector due to COVID restrictions.

Plus it reinforces that the Clare Valley Tourism Region is a highly desirable destination for all travellers in and to South Australia.
