Onyx Leadership Team

Welcome to June Onyx family!

As we move into the second half of what has already been a whirlwind year, the Onyx team is here to provide some insight and helpful tips to manage the craziness of day-to-day life. In a recent Instagram post, Dr. Plummer stated that “mental health is about the health of your thoughts and actions, which requires you to think deeply and analyze your own thoughts…and be open to understanding that some of your behaviors are counterproductive.”

But what does this mean you might ask?

Well, as champions of mental health, we want you…our community, to learn and understand that you impact your lives. YOUR thoughts and patterns assist or go against your healing process. It’s a never ending journey, and the road to transformative healing is a long one, but give yourself time to reflect this month, and allow yourself to think about the choices we can make for ourselves.

So, without further ado, let’s get this month started —

It’s PRIDE month!! What a time to celebrate living your authentic lives. This simple act is monumental in the health and wellness of one's mind, body and spirit, and Onyx wants to celebrate all that is YOU.

To be proud…what a concept that not too many people have the joy of feeling. The definition of pride, or the quality or state of being proud is defined as: inordinate self-esteem : a reasonable or justifiable self-respect. Or the delight or elation arising from some act, possession, or relationship parental pride.

If you are able to get to that level in your life, it MUST be celebrated. With this year’s theme being “Unapologetically Us” we want to make sure that all of our friends and family in the LGBTQ+ community feel empowered enough to be just that! How are you celebrating Pride this year??

Just as we celebrate pride in sexuality this month, we also celebrate the pride in being Black. As we think about what it means to be free in our expression of self, we also think about what Juneteenth means to us.

This year it is very special in that it falls on Father’s Day! Not only do we get to celebrate the power of our people and our emancipation, but we also get to celebrate the beautiful and powerful men in our lives that make the choice to assume the position of fatherhood. Our history is rich and our legacy spans far and wide so we must covet it.

This is why Juneteenth signifies so much for us as a people. We bask in our history and our freedom 365, but on this day, the nation recognizes the same.

Last year, Onyx celebrated the day with a Juneteenth staff photoshoot, where we were able to bask in the glory of Black sisterhood and celebrate our freedom as people!
