Jesus was in the room!
A Note from Pastor Mark
It was very late on a Sunday night. Jesus had risen from the grave and appeared to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. The conversation lasted until dinner when they stopped to eat at the village along the way. And at the end of the meal Jesus revealed Himself to Cleopas and his friend. Immediately in the twilight, they turned around and walked back up to Jerusalem the 6+ miles to find the Eleven disciples reflecting on the day.
Have you ever wondered about all that the disciples encountered that night? Some of their first words were: “The Lord has really risen!” And then Cleopas and his companion told of their experience during their walk with Jesus and that glorious moment their eyes were opened as they broke bread with the Risen Savior. (Luke 24:33-35)
But it is the next phrase in the text that catches our attention: “And while they were still talking about this, Jesus Himself stood among them.” Jesus was right there. Imagine, He was there the entire time – listening to their conversation!
Have you considered that Jesus is right in the room with you now? Theologically, we call this “the omnipresence of God”. Personally, we call this “amazing”. At this moment the Savior knows what each of us is experiencing. No wonder He left us with this promise: “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matt. 28:20) We can always count on Him because He understands us and knows our every need. He is in the room with each of us – right now.
