The Rafto Foundation for Human Rights and IHRB are delighted to announce the launch of the Oceans and Human Rights Platform – a collaborative initiative to raise awareness of and mitigate human rights risks across ocean industries.

The Platform will work with global and regional partners to embed respect for human rights through more inclusive dialogue, advocacy for stronger policies and support for better practices across key aspects of the blue economy.

The ILO Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) is an international treaty to protect the seafarers’ rights that came into force in 2006 that has now been ratified by more than 100 countries, representing over 90% of the world's fleet. 

In this podcast, Mark Dickinson, General Secretary of seafarers union Nautilus International, talks about these changes, and proposed improvements that were not approved by all parties.

JUST TRANSITIONS

The Institute for Human Rights and Business is delighted to announce Haley St. Dennis as the Head of Just Transitions.

As Head of Just Transitions, Haley leads IHRB's work on responsible climate action, developing an evidence base for the development of stronger norms and standards for how companies and industries can responsibly transition to a net-zero world in ways that respect the human rights of the workers and communities affected by the tremendous change underway across every sector and system.

Cobalt’s Role in a Green, Equitable, and Just Transitions

IHRB’s Haley St. Dennis provided an overview of the business and human rights value-add to the cobalt sector’s understanding of just transitions around the world at the 2022 annual meeting of the Cobalt Institute, a first-ever session convened to explore the cobalt sector’s role in supporting a rights-respecting approaches to net-zero energy transitions – a concept broadly referred to as just transitions


THE DHAKA PRINCIPLES AT 10

Throughout 2022, IHRB is marking ten years of the Dhaka Principles for Migration with Dignity with guest commentaries from representatives of business, trade unions, civil society organisations – reflecting  on the continuing importance of each of the twelve individual Principles.
