Celebrating National Volunteers Week - 1st-7th June 2022

Today marks the end of National Volunteers week - we have been celebrating the work of all the hard-working volunteers throughout Adur. Today, we highlight just a few of the fantastic volunteers who work in and for our community, providing much needed support and comfort to members of our Adur community through difficult and challenging times.

Don't forget too that we have a new volunteer database that you can advertise your volunteering opportunities on, please get in contact with Sarah here: sarah@adurva.org.

Introducing the volunteers......

ESTEEM offers social, wellbeing, volunteering, and mentoring opportunities to young adults, across Sussex.

ESTEEM: "Ian has been an amazing volunteer with ESTEEM, his roles have included mentor, volunteer driver on our hikes and our go-to handyman! We are so grateful for his skills, talents and the time he gives to our organisation. Thank you Ian!

Ian:

“It's good to see the young adults set out with a degree of bravado, and realise that they can achieve their goals”

Anonymous:
"My volunteering job role is media and marketing assistant.  I enjoy that I am part of the community and giving back, I’ve massively improved my confidence and my ability to work as a team, socially interact with others and enjoy practical tasks like delivering presentations. If you’re thinking about volunteering don’t hesitate! Even if you feel like what you have to offer isn’t enough there is always a place for you."

Lancing and Sompting Foodbank shares food donated by the community to those who need it the most.
John: "I love volunteering and meeting new friends"
Adur Community Cafe serves sit in and delivery "pay what you feel" hot meals, from Southwick Methodist Church Hall, every Friday 6.30-8pm

Julie: "I like volunteering for local grass roots charities. I started with the community cafe by delivering leaflets and I sometimes source rescued food for them. It's important to me that food doesn't get wasted and is used to feed people who need it. There is a real community feel to the Cafe which I like."

4Sight Vision Support at the Shoreham Centre – Open for Business

One-to-one appointments ensure that staff can offer a dedicated service to each individual to suit their particular support needs.

4Sight Vision Support’s services include emotional and practical help after diagnosis; assistance with technology and accessing benefits; support with education, employment and training; and access to leisure, social, health and wellbeing activities within the local community. Visitors to the Shoreham Centre office will also be able to try out various pieces of equipment/daily living aids to help with everyday tasks.
