Curb-Use and Parking Study Community Meetings

REGISTER FOR A MEETING

The Citywide Parking and Curb-Use study continues. Over the winter, our project team continued to collect existing conditions data, including curbside regulation information for every public curb in the city and occupancy data for selected streets at different times of the day in each neighborhood to inform the Curb Profile

The Curb Profile is an assessment of the characteristics of curbs and on-street parking in distinct areas of the city. The Parking Study Taskforce met twice this spring to learn about the development of the Curb Profile and provide feedback on the framework for modeling parking demand to inform study recommendations. The project team have now put together a slate of recommendations.

Please join us to discuss the Citywide Parking & Curb Use Study Findings at one of our two upcoming virtual meetings!

Join the project team to learn more about:

  • Curb regulations and occupancy data collected;
  • Key findings from data analysis;
  • Potential policy and operations recommendations to guide the City in bringing its parking policies in alignment with city goals, community values, and future needs.

Provide your feedback on the proposed recommendations to help inform next steps to policy changes.

There are two options to attend a virtual meeting:

MassDOT Safety & Accessibility Improvements at Route 28 and Route 38

LEARN MORE

On June 2, 2022, MassDOT hosted a Public Information Meeting about the Route 28 (McGrath Highway) and Route 38 (Mystic Avenue) safety and accessibility improvements.

The goals of the project are to increase the safety of all users, improve accessibility, and prioritize vulnerable road users along Mystic Ave., Fellsway, and McGrath Highway in the vicinity of the intersection as well as throughout the intersection itself.

With high speeds, multiple vehicle lanes in each direction, a lack of accessible curb ramps, and no protected bicycle facilities, these streets and intersections pose multiple safety issues for all roadway users, and, most notably people walking, wheeling, taking transit and biking.

In order to address the safety concerns in this area, MassDOT plans to implement improvements in multiple phases. The first phase is a series of early action safety improvements currently under construction. The second phase consists of larger infrastructure changes including a road diet throughout the intersection, shared use paths, and additional safety improvements are planned to start construction in 2024.

Visit Mobility's state highways project page for a summary of updates or review the Presentation Slides from June 2, 2022 Meeting.

To provide any feedback or to reach out to the project team throughout these projects you can contact to MassDOTProjectManagement@dot.state.ma.us or Dot.feedbackdistrict4@dot.state.ma.us. You can also visit the MassDOT Public Hearings website.

MBTA Bus Network Redesign

LEARN MORE

The MBTA has been working on a Bus Network Redesign to improve service for the people who depend on it most. They are proposing some major changes to reimagine bus service and more equitably serve the region. The draft proposal creates 25% more bus service, and Somerville could see an increase of 40% more service. The draft proposal emphasizes all day, night, and weekend service.

Explore the proposed new bus network here. There are many ways to learn about the potential changes, including an interactive map, written summaries, and a trip-planning tool to compare itineraries.

Check it out, then share your thoughts. The MBTA is leading an expansive public engagement effort to gather feedback through July. You can provide input in a variety of ways: submit this online survey, attend a virtual public meeting or in-person open house, email BetterBusProject@mbta.com, or call and leave a voicemail at 617-222-3011. The MBTA will make changes to the draft proposal based on public feedback.

The MBTA will host a virtual public meeting about proposed changes in and around Somerville on Thursday, June 16, at 6 p.m.

Members of the MBTA Project Team will also be attending the City of Somerville's Pedestrian and Transit Advisory Committee meeting on June 28, 6:30pm. These meetings are open to the public.
