CarpentryCon @ Home Updates

The proposal submission period for CarpentryCon @ Home 2022 closes 12 June!

The planning committee is looking for proposals on some of the following topics:

  • Diversity in Coding

  • Women in Artificial Intelligence

  • State of the open source movement

  • Data care skills for equity

  • Outreach and awareness of Carpentries outside our community

  • Data and information literacy in the age of misinformation

  • Communities and FAIR

  • Data inclusivity and diversity

  • Accessible data for all

Now Published: The Carpentries 2021 Annual and Financial Report

This past year’s Annual and Financial Reports are now available. The reports can be found on the reports page, The Carpentries’ central resource for all reports including yearly reports, grant reports, and assessment reports.

We hope you take the time to read these reports to see all the work that our Core Team and community have done in 2021.

Current Opportunities to Engage with The Carpentries

There are several current options to volunteer with The Carpentries and help us in working towards our mission.

  • Carpentries Workbench: Beta Phase Testing - We are beta testing The Carpentries Workbench and are looking for maintainers to volunteer to assist with beta testing. Learn more.

  • Data Carpentry Curriculum Advisory - In the coming weeks, we will begin the search for Curriculum Advisors to support three Data Carpentry curricula: Social Sciece, Ecology, and Image Processing with Python. Read more about the role of Curriculum Advisors within the community, and watch out for a full announcement coming soon.

  • Image Processing with Python - Call for Beta Pilot Applications - The Data Carpentry: Image Processing with Python curriculum is ready for beta testing. Learn more in this blog post.

  • Centrally Organised Workshops - The Workshop Administration Team is always looking for certified Instructors to teach Carpentries workshops. If you are interested in volunteering as an Instructor please add your name to the signup sheet. Please use the tabs at the bottom of the signup sheet to add your name in any region. Learn more about the benefits to teaching a Carpentries workshop.

Highlights from the Community Calendar

Community Discussions and Themed Discussions in The Carpentries are a great way to interact with, learn from and share your knowledge and experiences with other Carpentries community members from around the world. Subscribe to our community calendar for updates on community calls that may pique your interest and are in a befitting hour depending on your timezone and schedule. Incubator Lesson Spotlight

The Incubator Lesson Spotlight is a regular feature in The Carpentries blog and Carpentries Clippings newsletter, highlighting the great work our community is doing to develop new lessons in The Carpentries Incubator. Developers of any lesson in the Incubator are encouraged to submit details about their material for inclusion in the series.
