Dear Holy Cross Families,

Yesterday, during our weekly faculty meeting, our “Sunshine Club” (a group of faculty and staff who love to spread joy to one another within our building) held a surprise graduation celebration for the many teachers who have worked hard to complete college level coursework during the school year, while also teaching full-time.  Congratulations to Bixis Colina, Magda Argüello, Caitlin Nicholas, and Ann Gustine, who have all completed various programs this year!  We look forward to celebrating even more teachers next year, as we have many who are currently enrolled in a wide variety of college courses and certification programs, eager to continually improve as educators.

Another celebration we are looking forward to is Field Day!  PreK field day will take place on Friday, June 10th and all other grades will celebrate field day activities on Monday, June 13th.  In an effort to encourage authentic leadership, our 7th graders have been given the task of planning and organizing field day activities for the entire school.  Because these events happen after 8th grade graduation, it is the first authentic opportunity for our rising 8th grade class to experience leadership as the oldest students in our building.  With the help of sixth graders, they will organize and run various stations throughout the day for our younger students.  Students of all ages are looking forward to our annual visit from a fire truck on the same day.  Please plan to send your K-7th grade child with a towel and a possible change of clothes if they plan on getting sprayed with water.  We will be sure to share photos with parents!

A reminder that we are looking forward to having 1st-7th grade parents join us for our last all-school Mass of the year on Tuesday, June 14th at 10:30 a.m.  At the end of Mass, awards will be given to our oldest students and families will be invited to begin summer vacation as soon as Mass ends. PreK and K families will have separate end-of-year celebrations that same morning and should look for communication from their classroom teachers.

Have a great week!

Queridas familias,

Anyone who attended last Sunday’s 10:30 am Mass felt the energy present in the congregation during the Mass, the spirit that only the Holy Spirit can create with the congregation. The number of people who remained after Mass to chat, and the length of time that people engaged in conversation, added to the wonderful spirit during that time of fellowship. At all three of our weekend Masses there is a palpable spirit of joy felt in the singing of the hymns, and especially the Lord’s Prayer, as well as the noticeable joy that people exhibit in greeting one another before and after Mass as friends in the Lord Jesus…

Thank you for adding your spirit, in whatever way you do so, to the re-energized spirit that is blessing our parish at this time. It is indeed the Holy Spirit, whom we will celebrate in a special way next weekend on Pentecost Sunday, who is working through all of you to re-animate our parish. Be sure to wear red next Sunday as a way of celebrating not only the Holy Spirit but also all that the Spirit is doing within our parish.

Pulled Pork for Parking Lot Potholes!
All parishioners are invited and encouraged to attend a fundraiser dinner on Saturday, June 11th, beginning at 5:00 pm (after the 4 pm Mass), sponsored by our Knights of Columbus, to raise funds toward repair, resurfacing and relining our parking lots.  With the $10,000 grant from the diocesan Parish in Need Fund, we need to raise an additional $24,000 for this project through various fundraising efforts.
The cost of the dinner is $5 per person and $20 per immediate family.  The menu includes pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans and potato salad, with a Mac n’ Cheese option for the children.Weather permitting, tables will be set up for the dinner on the parking lot behind the church, which seems appropriate for this fundraiser!  If too hot or rainy, it will be held in the gym.  We will have food for 300 people, so please plan on attending. Can't attend? Donations are welcome!
Parents of 7th and 8th graders, ask your students about the opportunity to get FREE COLLEGE through the 21st Century Scholars program. Learn more here!
