Saturday, June 4 is National Health and Fitness Day!

Hey Canada,

Our dream is for Canada to be the fittest nation on Earth, and we need your help. Saturday, June 4 is National Health and Fitness Day this year, and we’re inviting all Canadians from coast to coast to get up, get out and get active throughout the week of May 30 to June 5.

Take a friend for a stroll around the block. Wheel to the park for a bit of fresh air. Take a break with your family to dance, skip or play. Share your activities with other Canadians using the hashtag #LetsMoveCanada. Why? Because exercise is good for our physical and mental wellbeing and contributes to lifelong health and well-ness. And it’s just plain fun!

Join in and you’ll be part of a massive movement around movement. Find out how non-profits, municipalities, ambassadors and other organizations can get involved and connect with millions of Canadians via our network and social media channels—and #LetsMoveCanada together!

This guide will give Sport Organizations an appreciation for and the knowledge to maximize collaboration with the Indigenous sport system, as well as provide the steps to map out how the mainstream sport system can support Indigenous athletes as they move between systems. By using this guide, Sport Organizations will improve the quality of the sporting experience for Indigenous athletes. By improving their experiences, Sport Organizations will benefit from enhanced capacity through mutually beneficial partnerships with Indigenous sport leadership, increased athlete and coach participation, and potential increases in podium performances.

French friew versus almonds: Calorie for calorie, which comes out on top?

In a perfect world, indulging in a daily portion of French fries instead of almonds would be a simple choice, and no negative consequences would stem from selecting the salty, deep-fried option.

But a Harvard expert says we should take the findings of a new study supporting this scenario with, er, a grain of salt. This potato industry-funded research suggests there’s no significant difference between eating a 300-calorie serving of French fries and a 300-calorie serving of almonds every day for a month, in terms of weight gain or other markers for diabetes risk.

Finding balance: 3 simple exercises to steady your steps

A healthy life requires balance — and not just in a metaphorical sense. Being able to maintain physical balance is crucial to performing everyday activities from going up and down the stairs to reaching for an item on a shelf at the supermarket. But while many people squeeze in a daily walk and may even do some strength training exercises a few times a week, exercises to build balance don’t always make the workout list. They should, according to experts.
