HOPE Recovered Newsletter May 2022
Construction Phase
With the expansion of the Library at the beginning of May, a month of construction had begun. Find out how far we got and what challenges we are facing. We still have a lot of work ahead of us and we are excited what the future has in store for us. Whatever comes our way, God is with us.

John Maxwell is a well-known leadership expert. He developed a course about leadership called "Beyond Success". The last 3 weeks we have been looking at toplics like, attitude, personal growth and priorities. The course challenges the participants to select one quality and to focus on it during the week with the goal to improve or grow in this area. As we split our group in two small groups, everyone gets to share and take part of the discussions. We get to know each other deeper and touches topics that one normally does not talk about.
While we can't control many of our circumstances, we can always control our attitudes. And choosing a positive attitude makes any circumstances look better.

The Library Expansion comes with problems
On 2 May, the Library for children doubled in size. We are tremendously grateful for everyone who joined us on that day and worked hard to create this extra space for the children of the Library.
After the expansion day, we ran into different problems. For example the flooring did still not arrive. It should be delivered in the next 7 days. Furthermore we experienced condensation on the roof, which drops down onto the furniture and books. therefore we are busy putting up a ceiling. A long time ago, we were introduced to a project, where shacks were insulated with milkcartons. The aluminium film on the inside of the box should make a big difference.

The 2nd annual Spelling Bee 2022
At the end of May, the Library children of HOPE Recovered were competing against the children of two other organisations. This year, the Spelling Bee Cempetition was organised in partnership with the Siyakha Youth Foundation. The third participating organisation was Thandanani Drop in Center. Even this year, the trophies didn't go to HOPE Recovered although one participant made it to the final round. So we still have something to achieve in the years to come.
The three judges did an amazing job and we are looking forward to next year's competition.

All the participants with their certificates of participation and the three winners. Congratulations to Siyakha Youth Foundation which took first place as last year.

Impressions from our first international volunteer
I have been in South Africa for only two weeks so far, but in that short period of time, I've already been able to see first-hand the positive impact HOPE Recovered has on the lives of the children that enter their library.
Once a child sets foot through the library's door, a world of learning, fun, and love presents itself to them. Learners from grade 1 all the way to grade 7 find books of different reading difficulties available for them to check out and lessons prepared for each child's learning stage. There is no ministry more powerful than reaching out to children with the love of Jesus Christ while aiding them in their education in the process, and HOPE Recovered has managed it beautifully.

Would you like to build the kingdom of God with us and lead HOPE Recovered into the future? The organization is looking for:
- active members for their board with a love for God and a zeal to become like Jesus. We urgently need a treasurer and a secretary.
- home-based volunteers with skills and experience in web design, marketing, or fundraising
- hands-on volunteers to help teach children at the Library or impart the Word of God to the youth
Don't hesitate to get in touch with HOPE Recovered if you are interested in building the Kingdom of God with us - for His glory, for His honour and His praise.
