Biennale Matter of Art 2022 announces venues

The exhibition will take place from July 21 to October 23, 2022, in Prague across three sites that offer a very distinct architectural backdrop to the exhibition. 

Building upon the first edition of Matter of Art, the biennale will return to the Prague City Gallery (GHMP) at the Municipal Library. The institution occupies the second floor of the 1920s building. Since the early 1990s, it has become one of the most prominent spaces for temporary exhibitions of modern and contemporary art in central Prague and beyond. The biennale is organized by tranzit.cz in close cooperation with GHMP.

The second part of the biennale will take place at the premises of the General University Hospital in Prague (VFN) in the spacious rooms of a former laundry facility. The biennale exhibition resonates with the efforts of the hospital to attract casual visitors to the hospital grounds, which include the Kateřinská Garden adjacent to the VFN Psychiatric Clinic.

The third venue for the exhibition is the art nouveau landmark Šaloun Studio, the former studio of the sculptor Ladislav Šaloun on the borders of the Vinohrady and Vršovice neighborhoods. The building is a part of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.

Bienále Ve věci umění 2022 oznamuje místa konání

Výstava se bude konat od 21. července do 23. října v Praze ve třech lokalitách, které reprezentují výrazně odlišné architektonické kontexty.

V návaznosti na první ročník bienále se část výstavy opět uskuteční v Galerii hlavního města Prahy (GHMP) ve druhém patře Městské knihovny. Prostor patří od počátku 90. let mezi nejvýznamnější tuzemské instituce zaměřené na prezentaci moderního a současného umění a projekt bienále vzniká v úzké spolupráci tranzit.cz a GHMP.

Druhá část výstavy se uskuteční ve Všeobecné fakultní nemocnici v Praze (VFN) v budově, která v minulosti sloužila jako centrální prádelna. Bienále rezonuje se snahou nemocnice více zpřístupnit areál jako prostor pro odpočinek – jeho součástí je mj. i Kateřinská zahrada přiléhající k Psychiatrické klinice VFN.

Třetím místem konání výstavy je secesní Šalounův ateliér – bývalý ateliér sochaře Ladislava Šalouna na pomezí čtvrtí Vinohrady a Vršovice. Budova je součástí Akademie výtvarných umění v Praze.
