The People's Vaccine Alliance Ireland (PVIA), hosted a Covid Vaccine Equity Conference on Thursday, 2nd June reminding us that the Covid-19 "Pandemic is Not Over".

Watch a recording of the conference HERE.

The PVAI are asking for your support in writing to your local TD informing them that you support the campaign in seeking a TRIPS waiver to ensure fair and equal access to Covid19 vaccines for all - a People's Vaccine:

Below is a sample template:

Dear Deputy [SURNAME].

I am very concerned about the current levels of global vaccine inequity; only 13% of people in low-income countries are vaccinated, compared to 75% of people in high income countries. I see that the Seanad and the Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment have both called on the government to support the TRIPS waiver. I also agree that the government should support the TRIPS waiver proposed by India & South Africa in October 2020. This would vastly increase COVID-19 vaccine, therapeutic and diagnostic production in low-income countries, preventing many deaths.

Please use your role to call on the government to support the waiver.

Kind regards,

European Citizens Initiative seeks your support

With only the months of June and July remaining in the lifetime of this campaign, Ireland requires 380 signatures to reach its European Commission set threshold (Ireland is currently at 95.89% of its target). We would join Belgium and Italy in reaching our respective national targets. Other countries may also do so but have a greater number of signatures to reach than Ireland.

While the coronavirus threat has slipped from peoples consciousness, the reality is that it remains a health challenge and very especially in Africa, Asia and South America where whole countries still have very low vaccination numbers as a percentage of their respective populations. This can lead to further variants presenting in the months and years ahead.
