Monetary Principles to Make Democracy Work
Friday, June 24th
8:30-9:30AM MT

On behalf of the Athens County (OH) League of Women Voters, John Howell, Mari Werner, and Debbie Schmieding will be presenting a caucus session on the monetary system at the
National Convention of the League of Women Voters (LWV) on June 24, 2022, in Denver, CO. Virginia Hammon, plus other committee members, have also made vital contributions to the presentation. The caucus presentation will be followed by a motion at the plenary session for the League itself, at the national level, to undertake a study of the monetary system and its impact on LWV values and on the positions it takes.

The League takes positions for advocacy, on several issues directly impacted by the monetary system, including meeting human needs and climate change. It will also be emphasized that democracy is undermined by the current monetary system, through the concentration of wealth and power to which the system is a central contributor. The proposal has come out of a study done by the local Athens County League. That study developed 9 features of a monetary system that would support LWV values. If the national LWV takes on a study, these ideas will be explored nationwide. The proposal and the study can be found on the
Athens County League's website.

If you are a current LWV member, we ask you to contact TODAY your local league's representatives who are going to the national convention to encourage them to attend this
particular caucus on Friday, June 24th, at 8:30-9:30AM MT.

Public Comments to the Fed on CBDC
Alliance For Just Money's Board of Directors provided public comments on May 19, 2022, to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System on its January 20, 2022, paper “Money and Payments: The US Dollar in the Age of Digital Transformation.”

Our responses to the Fed's 22 questions reflect that AFJM strongly believes that Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) is not and cannot be viewed as positive nor as a step toward a fully democratic sovereign money system so long as the private banking industry’s creation of bankmoney through credit still exists. The public discourse over CBDC is an excellent wake-up call for the nation and presents an opportunity for Just Money advocates to push for wholly public money.

You can read our responses in Public Comments to the Fed on CBDC or you can download the PDF.
AFJM's public comments are not yet posted but should eventually be on the Fed's webpage in PDF file #8 or higher. In case you missed it, check out our May 23rd Coffeehouse AFJM and AMI's Public Comments to the Fed on CBDC.

American Monetary Reform Act

AFJM's Legislative Action Committee (LAC) has worked hard over the last year fully reviewing and updating the
National Emergency Employment Defense Act of 2011 (NEED Act) to the American Monetary Reform Act of 2022 (AMRA). The LAC presented AMRA to the Board for review on May 21st. On June 11th, the Board met, discussed, and approved it unanimously.

AMRA will be presented to the AFJM membership for discussion at the July 23rd Annual Membership Meeting. We ask all of our members and subscribers to read the proposed legislation. While this is not necessarily AFJM's last update or version of AMRA, this May 2022 version entailed a full review and update of the entire NEED Act.
AFJM looks forward to educating on and advocating for AMRA in Year 5.

Board Candidates Announced for 2022
The AFJM Board Development Committee has approved the following candidates for the 2022 Board of Directors ballot: John Howell, Bo-Young Lim, Bruce Rogers-Vaughn, and Tom Wilda.

The election to fill four seats will be held online from July 6th to July 21st at 5PM PT. All Level 2 AFJM members whose annual dues are current will receive the ballot email and are eligible to vote. Results will be announced at the Annual Membership Meeting on July 23rd. Please
join as or upgrade to a Level 2 membership so that you too can voice your support for these new Board members and help AFJM through your annual dues to remain financially independent.

4th Annual Membership Meeting
We invite all AFJM members to attend the 4th Annual Membership Meeting on Saturday, July 23rd, at 10AM-2PM CT. We will begin with reports from our committees and Board election results. The remaining time we will showcase and discuss what AFJM has accomplished in Year 4 and what we plan to do in Year 5.

If you would like to participate, we urge our subscribers to become members. For our current members, you can upgrade to Level 2 by July 4th in order to vote in this election. To update your membership level, please log in to your account and follow these steps. We ask all members to update their address and phone number in the member portal.

All persons who agree with AFJM's
Mission and its Guiding Principles are eligible for membership. If you have any questions about AFJM's membership, please contact reform@monetaryalliance.org.

"Banks Bank on War Profits" by Greg Coleridge
There are many reasons why nation-states start or join wars – including the current Russian invasion of Ukraine. Controlling natural resources is certainly one of them. Whatever the reasons, banking corporations and other financial institutions in the U.S., among many corporate sectors, profit enormously from wars – causing massive harm to people, communities, the planet, and self-described “democratic” political systems.

A just or sovereign money system, as promoted by the Alliance For Just Money, would reduce corporate political influence, including whatever interests they have to promote or perpetuate wars and conflicts for profit.
