Lithium in Latin America:
A new quest for “El Dorado”?


Lithium is at the center of the energy transition as it is an essential component of rechargable batteries. Latin America holds 60% of all identified lithium reserves around the world. Read more about the opportunities and challenges posed by lithium to the region in this new #GraphForThought.


Lithium prices have increased more than 11-fold in the last 2 years: from $6 thousand dollars per ton in 2020 to more than $70 thousand in 2022

 
However, Latin American countries would need to significantly invest in R&D to keep larger parts of the value chain at home and be able to derive significant profits from lithium. Why? Find it out here.

Launch of the Paper on Gender Responsive Climate Actions in SIDS

As pointed out by Luis Felipe López-Calva during the event, the paper will serve as an instrument to monitor the progress of SIDS towards integrating gender in climate change actions .
 
On June 2 and 3, 2022, “Stockholm+50: A Healthy Planet for the Prosperity of All: Our Responsibility, Our Opportunity” will take place. This high-level meeting will be preceded by consultations and discussions between individuals, communities, organizations and governments from around the world.
