Letter from Bishop Current regarding the Sierra Pacific Synod

Dear ones in the Southeastern Iowa Synod,

Peace be with you.

I write to you today to share recent communications regarding the Sierra Pacific Synod. In particular, the release of the full report from the Listening Team, appointed by Presiding Bishop Eaton in consultation with the Latiné community and Bishop Rohrer of the Sierra Pacific Synod. This team was tasked to gather information and make recommendations to Bishop Eaton concerning Bishop Megan Rohrer and events surrounding the end of Nelson Rabell-González' call to the Misión Latina Luterana community on the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe in December of 2021. I am aware that there has been much communication about this matter within many social media networks, but I am cognizant of the fact that not all participate in or follow social media and it is possible that not all receive ELCA news releases...

Letter from Bishop Current regarding the June 2 shooting at Cornerstone Church in Ames

Dear ones in the Southeastern Iowa Synod,

Tonight, June 2, there was a fatal shooting at Cornerstone Church in Ames. Only a week ago I wrote to you about the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. Before that, there were the racially-motivated shootings in Buffalo and another shooting at a Taiwanese congregation in California. Mass shootings are so numerous. Last week I wrote, “Hope in Christ calls us to engage this complex issue in our homes, our communities, and even in our congregations so that we, as Christians and as citizens, may work together with local, state, and federal leaders toward safety and peace.” ...

 Synod Assembly Videos and Summary
A summary of the 2022 Synod Assembly has been posted online and includes links to download a handout for your congregation's bulletin or adult forum. Several videos from the assembly are now also available including the faith stories shared, the Bishop's report, the LSI report, and reports of the vice-president and treasurer. Also available online are the listings of those elected to synod positions, adopted resolutions, and materials.

Join with others interested in companion congregation/synod relations to celebrate and renew our companion synod relationship with Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT)

We will celebrate and renew our Companion Synod Relationship with the Pare Diocese and congregations in the Mwanga Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania and plan for our shared mission together with our partners in the ELCA and ELCT

Anyone in the Southeastern Iowa Synod who are either passionate about or curious about our companion synod relationships with the Pare Diocese and congregations in the Mwanga Diocese is welcome to attend. Congregations with relationships with congregations in Tanzania or projects underway in partnership with ministries in the dioceses are encouraged to send participants if possible.
