Dear <<First Name>>,

This week, I was proud to wear this shirt in support of National Access Ability Week and National Indigenous Access Ability Week. Many Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians continue to face barriers that affect their ability to participate fully in their communities, including physical barriers within the community, transportation and access to information or technology.

We have come a long way over the years in making our province a more inclusive and accessible place, but there is still a lot of work to do. Communities and workplaces benefit when everyone can participate equally in everyday life.

Check out@BCANDS1 for more information on how you can participate and support this week!

Here are some things I'd like to share with you from the past week:

Legislative session focused on building a stronger B.C. for everyone

The challenges British Columbians are facing today reinforce that we’re at our best when we look out for each other. Instead of tax cuts for those at the top and deep cuts to services, our BC NDP government chooses to put people first.

We’re going to keep working to lower costs for families and build a stronger B.C. for everyone.

B.C. receives an exemption to decriminalize possession of some illegal drugs for personal use

Substance use is a public health issue, not a criminal one. While we add life-saving services almost weekly, this is another critical step forward. By decriminalizing people who use drugs, we’ll break down the stigma that stops people from accessing life-saving support and services.

B.C. minimum wage increase June 1 for lowest-paid workers

When B.C.’s lowest paid workers are paid more, it helps build a stronger province for everyone. As of June 1, 2022, B.C.’s lowest paid workers will get a pay boost as the minimum wage increases from $15.20 to $15.65 per hour, which is the highest of any province.

This increase is part of our governments commitment to support workers and families and to make sure B.C. workers do not get left behind.

ChildCareBC's New Spaces Fund open for new applications

For too many years, accessible, affordable child care was either neglected or treated as a luxury. More families will soon be able to access licensed child care space, enabling parents to pursue work, school and other opportunities, with B.C.’s ChildCare BC New Spaces Fund now accepting new applications.

Public and not-for-profit child care operators and providers and Indigenous governments can now apply for the fund’s 2022-23 intake.
