SEUSSICAL TAKES OVER!

Last night was opening night! It was the culmination of the BCA Performing Arts Department’s incredible work as the curtain went up for the first performance of Seussical the Musical. There are a few tickets still available for the three remaining shows— you can buy yours at https://bca.fyi/tickets

SEUSSICAL VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED

The Performing Arts Department could use a few more volunteers to help backstage as the performers hit the stage. If you are a high school student or a BCA Parent and you’d like to help, please click the link and see if there’s a time you could volunteer to help the program: bca.fyi/volunteer.

HIGH SCHOOL FIELD TRIP

On Monday, June 6th, high school students will participate in a field trip called "Amazing Race Boston."  The students will be formed into teams with the high school teachers. Each team will be given an envelope with instructions or clues to their first destination in Boston and the method they will have to use to get to that destination. (it might be a subway, might be on foot, etc...)  When students arrive at their destination, there will be a person from the school who will do one of two things:

  1. Be given a clue or directions to their next stop
  2. Given a challenge to complete before they may move on to the next stop.

The first team to complete all stops and challenges with the lowest time will win the event.

We will be taking the school van and teacher vehicles to get to Boston. We will leave around 8:30 and be back in time for dismissal.  Please pack a lunch and bring a water bottle.  Please fill out the waiver and permission slip by 3 PM on Friday, June 3rd, in order for your student to participate.

YEARBOOK SIGN-UP AND DELIVERY

Our first shipment of BCA Yearbooks were handed out to just the Senior Class and unfortunately there were some spelling and formatting errors inside. In the spirit of “Embracing Excellence” we have corrected the issues and ordered a new run of the 2002 BCA Yearbook. The new shipment is on schedule to arrive next week, and our Seniors will receive replacement copies at their Commencement on Friday, June 10th.

If you’d like to purchase a Yearbook, there are still a few copies available in both hardcover ($45) and softcover ($40) versions. Visit bca.fyi/yearbook to buy your copy, but be quick — supplies are limited and once we are sold out there is no additional stock.

Nurse's Desk Update

COVID-19 Updates
There have been 3 new cases of COVID-19 since last week's communicator was sent out. Students in the following classes are considered to have been exposed and are encouraged to do an at-home test as soon as possible, even if they do not have a symptom:

  • Explorers grade K - (Mrs. Marshall)
  • Mountaineers - (Mrs. Strothoff)
  • Voyagers - (Miss McKearney)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated the COVID-19 community levels for Rhode Island’s counties. The areas that had been designated as “high” – Bristol County, Kent County, Providence County, and Washington County – are now considered “medium.” Newport County, which was “medium,” is now designated as “high.” Thankfully, case counts have generally decreased across the state in the past week. RIDOH updates community levels on its COVID-19 Data Tracker on Friday mornings.

Here are current protocols.  Please be reminded that anyone who has symptoms, even if not exposed, should have a negative at-home test before coming to school. Please do your part by testing your child at home in order to prevent potentially exposing other students causing them to isolate and miss out on important end of year events such as the musical, field trips, field day, end of year parties, and graduation.

Vaccine Update from RIDOH
"As you may already know, The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have authorized and recommended booster doses for children ages 5 through 11 about a week ago.  The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) is reminding families that booster doses of COVID-19 vaccine are now available for children 5 through 11 years of age in Rhode Island. National and local health experts are now recommending booster doses for everyone 5 years of age and older. (Previously, boosters were only recommended for people age 12 and older.)"

Please be aware that some individuals have still tested positive despite being vaccinated and boosted.

Testing
There are only a few State-run test sites remaining. State-run sites only test people who have symptoms of COVID-19 or are a close contact of someone who tested positive. If you're eligible, you can schedule a test online at portal.ri.gov or by calling 401-222-8022.

Testing for Summer Travel
If you're required to get tested for travel or to attend an event, schedule your appointment at a local pharmacy or clinic.

Parent Info on Securing Medication to Keep Children Safe
In addition to prescription drugs, over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and other commonly found medicines can be dangerous to children and youth. Store all medicines in a locked container and out of reach of children.

Staff Spotlight

Kathy & Al Wright, Rachael Cannistraci, Kim Strothoff

Four of our teachers are closing their BCA chapters next week and beginning new opportunities at other schools next Fall. We are grateful for the time Kathy and Al Wright, Rachael Cannistraci, and Kim Strothoff spent teaching and coaching at Barrington Christian Academy,  and we wish them success and continued blessings as they become “the new kids” at their new schools.
