West Morris Church's mission is to Awaken Hope with the Transforming Light of Jesus.

Our vision is to partner with God to cultivate flourishing and unleash revival in West Indy.

Join us in this life-transforming, hope-filled Kingdom work!

I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be cleansed of all your pollution. I will cleanse you of all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you. I will remove your stony heart from your body and replace it with a living one, and I will give you my spirit so that you may walk according to my regulations and carefully observe my case laws. Then you will live in the land that I gave to your ancestors, you will be my people, and I will be your God.
Ezekiel 36.25-28

It's Pentecost!

Sunday is the celebration of Pentecost - the birthday of the Church. On this day, 50 days after Jesus' resurrection, the Holy Spirit came upon the gathered disciples, empowering women and men alike to testify and praise God in many languages. On that day, Scripture tells us about 3000 people came to faith!

Today we continue to celebrate Pentecost, looking to the Holy Spirit for his continued ministry and movement in our midst. The very same Spirit that was poured on the first Pentecost is also available to us today.

On Sunday we ask you to prepare for the celebration - even as you get dressed. Wear RED to celebrate the movement of the Spirit, and come ready to encounter God anew this week!

On Sunday we will also begin our new series, The Free Methodist Way, and hear reports and praises from our Annual Conference that is happening June 3-4 in Evansville. West Morris Church will have numerous individuals at Conference including Pastors Kristen, Rachel and Penny, Brian, Lou, Jeff and Kathe. And just in case there wasn't enough to get excited about for Sunday - we also have a special gift for everyone in the congregation that we are praying will help us all engage Scripture and take next steps in following Jesus!

Please be in prayer f
or Jan Leak who is having surgery on Friday, June 3. And also pray for Moe Omer who is in the hospital with burns from a lawn mowing accident.

Finally, be sure to put Summer Fest on your calendars for Saturday, June 11 at West Park. This inaugural community event, the summer version of the Winter Fest that we hosted last winter, will be a great community event with all of our community partners. Your participation and service is needed to help create a wonderful experience for our neighbors. Interested in serving? Contact Pastor Rachel Mohlman or Pastor Penny.

Morris Streetscape Plan Update
Look for barrels to go up on the south side of the street, affecting east bound lanes of parking.  This restriction will remain in effect for the rest of the year.  East bound traffic will be consolidated into 1 lane. The north side/west bound parking lane will be restricted later this summer. However, the one-way restriction and traffic detour will not occur until after the first of next year.

While it may not look like this project began almost 2 months ago, Citizens Energy has been working on the underground utilities portion.  There is significant work being done for water, drainage, and gas structures. The pedestrian bridge on the Eagle Creek trail is also being rebuilt.

Thanks to Lisa Laflin, Director of WIDC, for the update!
FAQ

What happened to "Free Methodist" in our name? Aren't we Free Methodist anymore? Great question! Maybe you've wondered this before.

Here's the answer. We are definitely Free Methodist - and very proud to be! In June we will be exploring just what it means to actually live as Free Methodists as we explore the five values that shape our identity as Free Methodists.

So, why are we just using "West Morris Church"? West Morris Street Free Methodist Church is quite a mouthful - when creating logos, when answering the phone, when telling people what church is on the corner of Morris and Pershing. So, just like most other Indy FM churches, we tend to use a shortened version of our name in everyday conversation and communication (ie First Church, John Wesley, Light + Life, The Gate, Aldersgate, Mars Hill, etc).

This actually isn't anything new. Long-time West Morris people will know the church went by "WEMO" for decades. In fact, several of you still use that! Just like West Morris Church, WEMO also doesn't have "Free Methodist" in the name. But, unlike WEMO, West Morris Church is something that can be understood by outsiders. If you think about it, WEMO is really an insider name - anyone on the streets walking by has no idea what a "WEMO" is. But West Morris locates us in our community and makes much more sense to those who aren’t familiar with the church. So West Morris Church is our "nickname" if you will. Our formal, legal name and denominational identity continues to solidly be Free Methodist.
