Duplex Damaged by Fire

(Manhattan, Kan., June 24, 2022) — At 12:26 a.m. on June 24, the Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to 320 Rosewalk Place for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found a single-story duplex with fire on the exterior gable of the structure above the garage. The initial arriving fire crew was able to quickly extinguish the fire on the exterior of the structure shortly after arrival.  Crews then checked for extension into the structure and performed an overhaul of the fire area to ensure extinguishment. A total of 15 firefighters responded on 6 fire apparatus with the last units clearing around 2:30 a.m. 
 
Both sides of the duplex were occupied at the time of the fire and the three occupants of the structure were able to exit without injury. Structure loss is estimated at $10,000 to 320 Rosewalk Pl. and $10,000 to 326 Rosewalk Pl.. There was no fire loss to the contents. The owner of 320 Rosewalk is listed as Richard and Janette Taylor of Manhattan, Ks, and the owner of the adjoining 326 Rosewalk is listed as The George Living Trust of Manhattan, Ks.  The occupants were not displaced due to the fire. 

The fire cause was determined to be caused by a lightning strike.
