A 'Summer Solstice' concert at West Hatch High School, Chigwell, featured a mixture of song, dance, instrumentalists and poetry.

Head of Music Marcella Lord said: "The solstice is a time of warmth and light, of new possibilities and happiness.

"Our concerts are committed to giving everyone an opportunity to perform in a safe, friendly and inclusive environment.

"Many students are also working backstage, or providing lighting and sound as we run a weekly Tech club putting together an amazing, collaborative and dedicated team who support Mr Vincent in every show West Hatch puts on."

Last year Ms Lord established 'Empower', a group run by sixth formers for the school's younger female students who run sessions on topics such as mindfulness, nutrition, exercise, self defence, self-esteem and confidence building.

Ms Lord said: "Some members of 'Empower' introduced the artists on to the stage or read poems.

"For many of the singers and musicians the concert was also the first time they had stepped on stage and conquered their nerves.

"During the concert some students showed great resilience by having the strength after making a mistake to carry on and finish their performance.

"I am so proud of every person that performed or worked behind the scenes. It was a long hot day but all the students handled themselves brilliantly and put on a fantastic show."
