PARCHMENT DATA REMINDER

As we enter Final Exam Board season, please remember to double-check the spelling of students' names on the parchment data spreadsheet, as well as that each student's official name has their forename, middle name(s) and surname in the correct order. The UEA Graduation Office produce certificates directly from the parchment data so it's important this information is correct to prevent certificates needing to be reprinted.
HONORARY STAFF AT GRADUATION CEREMONIES

Graduations are not just a time for honouring students, they can also be a time for honouring other individuals. Many of you will already be familiar with our process for nominating honorary graduates from outside your institution, but what could you offer for those from within, such as long serving staff members?

At UEA, we often award the title of ‘Emeritus Professor’ for high achieving academic staff who are leaving the organisation, usually through retirement, to acknowledge their contribution and allow them to maintain a link with the University. Other titles such as 'Professorial Fellow' or 'Honorary Fellow' can also be given, however these are also usually reserved for individuals who are leaving the organisation.

Unfortunately, for staff who are remaining at your institution it is not currently possible to use either of these title options. However, institutions may present appropriately titled awards, such as those for outstanding academic achievement, as an academic prize to staff.

If you would like to honour a continuing or leaving staff member at a graduation ceremony, please contact your partnerships manager to discuss options.
OFS ANNUAL FINANCIAL RETURN GUIDANCE

The OfS have published regulatory advice that sets out the information that a provider is required to submit as part of its financial monitoring returns to the OfS. This includes detailed guidance on how to complete and submit the Annual Financial Return 2022 workbook, together with sample templates.

SPOTLIGHT ON - PLACEMENTS

This month we are putting the spotlight on placements. We’ve put together a guide which aims to set out the various roles and responsibilities of the Institution, Students, and Placement Providers, to ensure that robust processes are in place both to secure the quality of the learning opportunities and to mitigate any risk.

Please click here to access our placements guidance.

If you have any questions about the guidance, please contact your Partnerships Manager for further advice.
60 SECONDS WITH CALLUM MOBBS

We’re delighted to welcome a new colleague to Academic Partnerships, Callum Mobbs, who has joined us as a Partnerships Coordinator. You can find out a bit more about Callum below!

Tell us about your role at UEA
I joined the Academic Partnerships team at the start of June as one of the Partnership Coordinators and support the Partnership Managers for City College Norwich, Mountview, Royal Marsden School, and West Suffolk College. Prior to this I worked in UEA’s Faculty Professional Services, supporting the Schools of Engineering, Computing Sciences and Mathematics.

What would surprise people to know about you?
That I am quite an avid rock climber, though funnily enough I have a slight fear of heights! I am a regular on the climbing wall at the Sportspark at UEA, as well as other local climbing facilities in Norfolk, and am hoping to go outdoor climbing at some point.

What’s your favourite film of all time and why?
I am quite a Star Wars fan and remember watching them in the 2000s with my Dad when I was younger and the prequels with Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor had just come out. My favourite is Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, it’s very action intense and is the perfect film for anyone who loves Science Fiction.

What’s your favourite place to visit?
I’m not sure that I have a favourite place but I enjoy trips around some of the quieter areas of Norfolk and Suffolk. One highlight for me is Santon Downham, a village in Suffolk by Thetford Forest. It has some beautiful walks around it and there is a lovely picnic spot where you can swim in the Little Ouse River, perfect on a hot summer’s day.

Tell us your favourite joke
A man walks into a bar with his dog and bets the barkeep that if he can prove his dog can talk, he can get free drinks. The barkeep agrees and asks for proof. The man asks the dog “What grows on the outside of trees?” and the dog replies “Bark”. The barkeep still doesn’t believe the man and asks for further proof. The man asks the dog “What does sandpaper feel like?” and the dog replies “Ruff”. The barkeep laughs and kicks them out of the pub for wasting his time. As they stand outside the pub, the dog turns to the man and goes “was it something I said?”
