  More Ways To Stay Connected

We require everyone (over two years old) to wear a mask inside the Nave during services. The best way to protect our parish from the spread of Covid is to mask-up when we gather together in a confined space. Masks are not required in the rest of building.

Would you like to learn more about the Alkheder family the parish is co-sponsoring with Kentucky Refugee Ministries? Check out the bulletin board at church. This family has a fascinating background and has given up much to escape from Syria and find a safe haven. The bulletin board has photos of the family as well as more details about their lives.
Clothing is still needed for the refugee family. Please place gently used or new clothing you wish to donate in the cart in the Narthex. Besides summer clothing, they will definitely need winter items such as jackets and coats. Here are the sizes:

Ismaiel-men’s medium
Huda- women’s size XL or 16
Muhammad- men’s small to medium
Noor- women’s (14-16)
Aya- women’s M (10-12-16)
Haylaman-women’s S (4-6-8)
Lamar-youth L (girl’s 14-16)

OUTREACH

Institute (SGSI) is busy this Summer and has volunteer opportunities available for you! SGSI will operate its Reading Rockets 2022 Summer Camp at Johnson Middle School from June 13 to July 22. There will be seventy-five K-8th graders who will be reviewing math and reading every day, which will help minimize summer learning loss. SGSI is in need of readers to volunteer for ten minutes, from 9-9:10 AM, on any one day between June 13 to July 22, at Johnson Middle School to read a story book to the kids before they start their day. In addition, afternoons are filled with activities or field trips, such as to The Aquatics Center, the Zoo and, possibly, Holiday World.

Volunteers to assist with these activities are also needed. If you are interested in helping, please email your contact information to Tara Durnil at tdurnil@stgeorgesky.org and she will work with you to schedule a reading or volunteer activity on a day that works best for you. For more information on what SGSI is doing, see the following links:

Facebook is St. Matthew’s fastest communication. When something pops up for us, we’re putting it on Facebook first. That’s where you can get information when we need to communicate quickly between eSpirits. We understand that not everyone is on Facebook, and we are also clear that given our staff resources it’s the best way that we’ve found to communicate. There will be a recap in the eSpirit for items that are still relevant.

The Parish Directory Is Online. You can access the entire parish directory online, through our app (St. Matthew’s Episcopal – found on Android Play Store and Apple Store).

  • You can update all your personal information right on the app!
  • You can upload your own pictures for the directory through the app as well!
  • You can get directions through Google maps directly from the directory.
If you have never accessed the directory online before, or you experience any issues, contact Joanne Coleman.

   Illuminations on Sunday's Reading

Because Easter was relatively late this year, we dropped into the middle of the story of the prophet Elijah in the books of Kings. God chose Elijah to speak truth to King Ahab and his wife Jezebel, and to warn the kings who would follow them that disaster lay ahead. After fleeing the rulers’ anger for fear of his life – we heard about that in last week’s Track One first reading – we now look on as Elijah is taken up to heaven in a fiery chariot while his chosen successor, Elisha, and a crowd of fifty other prophets look on in amazement.
