June 21 to August 31

It’s time to sign up for Summer Reading 2022! There are Oceans of Possibilities to explore, dive into, and enjoy. Summer Reading is for everyone - babies to adults; just follow the instructions in How to Participate.

How to Participate

Summer Reading is for all ages so we invite the entire family to sign-up. Log your reading throughout the summer – reading and listening in all formats counts.

  • Pre-Readers - Stop by the library for your activity log. Cross off the sea shell with each activity you complete.
  • Elementary, Teens, & Adults - Try our new app, Beanstack, or choose a paper tracker to log minutes, or set your own reading goal.

Prizes
When you are halfway through, visit us to claim your halfway prize starting July 20th.

When you reach your goal, visit the library during the month of August to pick up your free prize book, a Super Reader sign, and enter the Grand Prize Drawing sponsored by Island Optometry Clinic. Prize books are available through the month of August.

Special Events for Kids

(The following Special Events are all at the Heart of Anacortes, 1014 4th St., unless otherwise noted)

  • Summer Reading Kickoff - SaturdayJune 25th @ 10:00 am at Washington Park - Come explore the beach at Washington Park with our friends from the Salish Sea School! Learn about our ocean and how we can help take care of the creatures in it.
  • Magician Elliott Hunter - Tuesday, July 5th @ 1:00 pm
  • Author Nikki McClure - Tuesday, July 12th @ 1:00 pm
  • Musician Ray Soriano - Tuesday, July 19th @ 1:00 pm
  • Bubble & Dancewith John Van Deusen - Tuesday, July 26th @ 1:00 pm

Weekly Programs - starting June 27th

Mondays - LEGOs from 2-4 pm in the Children’s Activity Room

Tuesdays - Special Guests @1pm at the Heart of Anacortes (starting 7/5/22)

Thursdays - STEAM @1 pm in the Community Meeting Room

Fridays - Storytimes at Causland Park @10 am

Special Events for Teens

Teen Summer Kick-Off 
June 29th 3:00 – 4:30 pm
Causland Park (Library if weather is uncooperative). 
Join us for improv and lawn games, snacks, and fun in the park with the library.

Beach Cleanup with the Salish Sea School 
July 5th 4:00-5:00 pm @ Seafarer's Memorial Park 
Join us along with the Salish Sea School and the Anacortes High School Green Club to clean up the beach after holiday celebrations.

Salish Sea Orca Workshop 
July 6th 4:00-5:30 pm @ Anacortes Public Library 
Learn about Orcas in our local oceans and eat some snacks, learn about more library programs, and find out more about how you can take care of our sea creatures.  

Craft & Chill 
July 13th 4:00-5:30 pm @ Anacortes Public Library 
Join us for pizza, snacks, and creativity with supplies found and sourced to create a beach themed art piece.

Explore the W.T. Preston 
July 20th 4:00-5:30pm Maritime Heritage Center, 703 R Ave 
Meet us at the W.T. Preston for an adventure on the boat including snacks, an audio tour with the museum staff and more.

Beach Party: Summer Wrap-Up 
July 27th 4:00-5:30 pm Washington Park 
Meet at Washington Park for a scavenger hunt at the beach and s’mores to celebrate the end of summer reading. We’ll have prizes and snacks as well. 

4th of July Parade

The Library will be marching in the 4th of July parade this year and we'd love for you to dress up and join us.
