Simchat Torah Holiday
|
|
Simchat Torah is a holiday that commemorates and celebrates the conclusion of the reading of the Torah scroll in synagogues. At this very special Sacred moment, we mark the conclusion of the annual cycle of Torah readings and the beginning of a new cycle by reading בְּרֵאשִׁית the first Parasha of the book of Genesis immediately afterward. Year after year, for generations, the last Parasha of the yearly Torah reading, פָּרָשַׁת וְזֹאת הַבְּרָכָה, "V'Zot HaBerachah," which means "And This Is the Blessing," was read by the people, who joined together to joyfully celebrate the conclusion of the yearly Torah portion reading in synagogues all over the world.

Our Journey To Babylon
|
|
Simchat Torah takes us back thousands of years to a Babylonian custom and to the אַמוֹרָאִים Amoraim era. This very significant time gave life to the Holy Day of Simchat Torah, which spread to Jewish communities all over the world. In the Torah, on that day we are commanded to celebrate שְּׁמִינִי עֲצֶרֶת Shemini Atzeret, Simchas Torah's uniqueness is that this holiday was created by the people and has continued throughout the centuries to honor, celebrate, and worship the Torah and its many blessings.
In the days of Babylon, the Torah reading was first divided into 54 Parashot in an annual cycle where every week a portion of the Torah was read. This big, festive holy celebration of שִׂמְחַת תּוֹרָה Simchat Torah means "Rejoicing of the Torah." It marks the yearly Torah reading cycle, the time when the 54th and final weekly Torah portion of the year is read by Am Yisrael.
Simchat Torah's names in the Scribes are
יוֹם טוֹב אַחֲרוֹן
יוֹם שֵׁנִי טוֹב
יוֹם הסֵפֶר
יוֹם סִיּוּם הסֵפֶר
יוֹם שֵׁנִי שֶׁל שְּׁמִינִי עֲצֶרֶת
יוֹם הַבְּרָכָה

On Simchat Torah, in synagogues throughout the world, all the Torah scrolls are taken from the Ark. Then members of the congregation circle the reader’s platform (Bimah) seven times as they carry the Torah scroll with them and chant Piuytim. Everyone kisses the Torah scrolls as they pass.
This ceremony is known as Hakafot, with seven Hakafot in total. Hakafot in Hebrew means "to circle" or "going around," to encircle the reader's platform. This ritual originated in the 16th century, at the Holy city of Zafed in the days of the Kabbalist The Ari. According to this tradition, all Torah scrolls are held in the hands of the people of Yisael on the holiday eve and during the following day, with the people's rejoicing accompanied by music instruments. Simchat Torah is famous for the large number of Piyutim, Psalms Mizmorim, and Torah verses, which praise the celebration of the Torah reading's conclusion, honoring the Torah's Sacredness, and the Torah's readers.
In a celebration of praying, singing, dancing, and rejoicing with the Torah, we give thanks for our blessed Holy Torah and the Sacred Hebrew letters, given by God to the People of Yisrael.

Simchat Torah Sparks of Holiness
|
|
Simchat Torah blesses us with sparks of Sacredness to anchor grounding of Earth with Divinity. It calls us to elevate the joy of life with Sacred qualities of The Torah. The Torah's light is love and Oneness. This blessing nourishes Sacredness, loving grace, and abundance which enriches our Sacred souls by channeling Divine qualities. The alignment and symmetry generate a unique melody of synergy that blesses us with the Grace of God.
Simchat Torah is encoded with an elevated idea in its core. By honoring the Biblical alignment to God, the Torah, and the Holy Land of Israel, the observance of this ancestral ritual affirms our spiritual legacy. The Holy Day of Simchat Torah is an opening to cultivate and shine Sacred Goddess qualities by deepening our connection with the power of Divine Source through rituals, Torah reading, prayers, and traditions we inherited from our ancestors during the time of Babylon.
Simchat Torah inspires us to strengthen the covenant between the Shekinah and Earth; Am Yisrael and the Torah; the Children of Israel with the Holy Land of Israel; the people of Yisrael with each other; and to our own eternal covenant with God through the universal ethics written in the Ten Commandments. This Sacred alignment reaffirms Oneness within ourselves and with God, fosters belonging, and promotes global goodwill, which supports resilience and helps humanity evolve towards more unity, spiritual growth, and the healing of our collective consciousness.
The Hebrew year with all the Shabbats, holidays, Moadim, and Rashi Chodashim along with Earth’s Natural Cosmic Life Cycle are meant to provide a profound legacy for the nation of Israel. The moral, holistic, cultural, and religious values encoded in the Torah, the Bible, and the Ten Commandments form a foundation of Sacred building blocks that align Heaven with Earth and define Am Yisrael's unique spirit that illuminates its mission as a nation and as people to strive for Tikun Olam --The Healing and Transformation of Our World.
