WE HAD A GREAT NIGHT AT THE MOVIES!!

BEIT EMANUEL MATTERS

The Week That Was

Your Management Committee (Mancom) and Board of Guardians (BoG) held a successful strategy workshop on the morning of Sunday, 12 June. We will bring you some of the exciting outcomes from that workshop in the weeks ahead.

Our youth-led Kabbalat Shabbat Service on the 17th was also a great success, and was very well-attended, both in-person and on Zoom. All credit to those members of our younger age cohorts for organising and participating in the service, as well as to Simonne Horwitz for facilitating.

The word from Vice-Chair Lesley Hudson is that the AFDA/Beit Emanuel “night at the movies” on the evening of the 18th was a great success. This was a preview of Professor Merle Williams’ documentary interview with Justice Albie Sachs, and an opportunity to engage with Robyn Aronstam and the team of student filmmakers who participated in the project.

In the Rabbi’s absences over the past few weeks, our remarkable team of Lay Readers stepped in to ensure that our Shabbat service ran without missing a beat.

Looking Forward

Please join us this (admittedly rather chilly) Friday evening for our heart-warming Kabbalat Shabbat Service in the Shul, followed by a stunning Brocha in the Janks Hall. The Shabbat Morning Service will be in the Gillis Boardroom, followed by a potluck Brocha in the Atrium. The Talmud Study Group will meet in the Boardroom thereafter. The Scrabble Club (an external group of hardcore Scrabble afficionados) will be in the Atrium for the rest of the afternoon, if Scrabble is your thing.

Netzer (our Reform Zionist youth group) will be holding a series of day camps next week, including a Peulah (activity) at Beit Emanuel on Tuesday morning. See the flyer below or click this link for details and to register: https://forms.gle/mRxoTbcMMdDUVvhm7

Please join us in the Shul next Saturday morning (the 2nd) for the adult Bar Mitzvah of Bradley Goodson.

Our next Music Circle will be on Friday the 8th. Please see the insert below for details.

Shabbat Shalom!

REMINDERS…

Saturday Cheder classes

We’ll be resuming full Religion School classes every Saturday morning, from 09h30 to 11h00. Diane McColl will be joining Jody Segel. Morah Diane will be teaching the junior class, while Jody will continue with the Barmie/Battie candidates. Diane will also run a Peulah (activity) for the entire group every second week.

Your Shul needs you!

Because we’re a community rather than an organisation that provides services for a fee, we often need to call on our members for their time and skills rather than their money (although that’s also always welcome!). A case in point is our volunteer Security Team, which was well supported until the lockdown. We’re now struggling to get our numbers back up again, to ensure that volunteers don’t need to be on duty more than once every month (or even two).

If you’re willing to push beat on a Friday evening, please chat to Virgil Challens, Peter Joseph or Graeme Hochschild, or just send your contact details to Morgana at the Shul Office.

We hope to have our numbers back up to where they should be before the High Holy Days. Please help us to make this become a reality.

MUSIC CIRCLE is back
