💌 Welcome to Issue #70 of The Conscious Edit!

As we embrace a slow fashion season here at Conscious Life & Style, I've been thinking a lot about how we can make slowing down a lasting change.

How do we make slow fashion practices personally sustainable for ourselves for the long haul?

I love doing a No New Clothes challenge, like the one advocacy organization Remake is currently running. Pressing pause helps me do a little reset and make sure I'm truly being thoughtful about my purchases.

👗 But I also like to consider: how can we sustain our best intentions?

Well in this week's Conscious Stye Podcast episode, I chatted with slow fashion content creator Jessica Harumi to talk about how we can cultivate a healthier relationship to shopping.

In this episode of the podcast, Jessica shared:

👚 How we can identify an unhealthy relationship to shopping,

👚 How we can start to develop a healthier relationship to our wardrobes,

👚 The benefits of creating a capsule wardrobe, and so much more!

Alright, now to the rest of this week's Conscious Edit...

📚 READING...

The Myth of Retail Therapy | Remake

If you weren't already skeptical of Big Fashion marketing schemes that convince us to buy more than we actually need, then this article will do it for you!

The piece breaks down a brief history of mass consumption, how the fast fashion hamster wheel rewires our brains, the dangers of promoting retail as "therapy", and how we can break free of the cycle of constant consumption.

"Fast fashion is a state of mind: our modern consumerist culture is constantly reinforcing the message that we need more stuff, that we should buy cheap things and that we should not expect them to last. We are constantly being trained—our brains rewired—to accept this message unthinkingly."

Fashion Social Enterprises Centering Artisans & Driving Impact  Stella Hertantyo on Conscious Fashion Collective

"A social enterprise is a cause-driven business that has a core focus on creating positive social impact. Positive social impact is a broad ambition and there are many different social causes.

But in the fashion industry, fashion social enterprises often aim to center the experiences of their workers and advocate for ethical working conditions and sustainable livelihoods. They are also often artisan-led which allows for the preservation of traditional skills."
