Feasting in our garden outside Made In Hackney after our fabulous Punjabi masterclass

🌞 Hey MIH family,

Things are heating up for summer and in the Made In Hackney kitchen. The weather has been bright and beautiful so we’ve been soaking it up in our glorious outdoor space. From our beautiful Windrush Community Feast (more on that below) to foraging on the Summer Solstice, we’ve been charged by the sunshine and seeing all your happy faces. However you’ve been making the most of the last month, we’ve got some great upcoming workshops to keep the fire burning.

We’re also on the lookout for new volunteers to help us on our community nourishment mission. There’s a number of great ways you can pitch in. Right now we’re especially looking for Kitchen Assistants, Cyclists, Project Assistants and Class HostsGet involved and become part of our volunteer team; learn new skills, make bonds for life and get the warm fuzzy feeling from doing something impactful.

Check out our top picks below:

Nab one of the last tickets for our Gut Health Masterclass tomorrow and take a whopping 50% off with code: GUT50

Tomorrow – join talented and intuitive Asa Linea Simonsson in a fermentation workshop, packed with gut-to-know info like what's the difference between prebiotics and probiotics and why it matters. Learn about the connection between belly and brain and cook up gut-soothing goodies.

Fancy growing your own but don’t think you have the space? Think again with this bloomin’ marvellous class. Be inspired by expert green-fingers and author of Vertical Veg Guide to Container Gardens, Mark Ridsdill Smith. Plus – you’ll take home your very own tray of microgreens.

Ready for a little ‘dosa’ Southern Indian cooking? We thought so. Join the amazing Nisma Shah net Saturday as she draws from Indian and Kenyan culinary roots showing just how delicious plant-based cuisine can be with dosas, potato-based masala, sambhar / daal and more!

We’ve been making the most of the gorgeous outdoor space we have at the Made In Hackney kitchen and it was especially welcome at our monthly Windrush Community Feast. We collaborated with The Amity Project and Clapham Commons to put on a beautiful get together, curated for over 55s in the local area, that featured all manner of joyful activities and homages. From a three course plant-powered feast whipped up by resident Chef Flo to poetry readings, dancing and a raffle.

Powerful words from Amanda of Amity Project explain just why these get togethers are so essential: "It's important that we acknowledge the contribution of the #Windrushgeneration and it’s important to tell their undiluted stories, so we can appreciate the sacrifices they made to enable us to have the life we have today.” We’ll be back on July 20th so why not join us?

MORE STORIES: A shoutout to our incredible volunteers and a busy day in the MIH kitchen  The team have a fabulous day down at the Big Lunch Community Event Peng Patties are doing big things, more from them and their incredible journey in next month's newsletter!
