Hello everyone,
I hope everyone takes a moment to check out one of our featured reviews this week, Junior Cannonballer Bibliophile’s Half Cannonball. These 26 reviews were Bibliophile’s community service project for her Bat Mitzvah. We are so proud of her and thrilled that she chose CBR for her efforts. Mazel tov!
Cannonball Read is a great way for students of any age to meet community service requirements. As a registered 501(c)(3) CBR may now qualify for service time, depending on the program; and we’d be happy to work out details with community members. We can sign new participants up any time during the year, so parental-type units, please get in touch to inquire on the behalf of any juniors. Teen Cannonballers may, of course, reach out directly.
We may be lucky enough to see Bibliophile back around the group blog in September, as she has already reviewed one of three selections in our fall #CannonBookClub on banned and challenged books. The Hate U Give joins two other choices for our readers to discuss on Sept 16-17: The 1619 Project by Nikole Hannah-Jones and All Boys Aren't Blue by George M. Johnson.
Please consider moving one or all of these to the top of your TBR pile; let’s fight censorship and cancer at the same time!

 Did you grow up as a reader? Are your kids readers?
I was a voracious reader as a kid! I remember having to get special permission to take out more than the usual number of books from the library, plus I got early access to the Young Adult room. Each summer, we'd go on vacation to a cabin for two weeks and between myself, my mom and my grandmother we'd have 5-6 milk crates of books.
It's no surprise that my kids also rocket through books. My oldest loves graphic novels and adventure books (he's eagerly awaiting the last Amulet book) and while my youngest just started reading, she's a big fan of the Babysitter's Club graphic novels.

#CannonBookClub: Banned Books in September
Thank you to everyone who voted and helped us choose three banned books to read at our book club discussion September 16-17. We'll be discussing:
- The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story by Nikole Hannah-Jones
- All Boys Aren't Blue by George M. Johnson
- The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

The Book Bingo Reading Challenge is Coming!
The Cannonball Book Bingo Reading Challenge started in 2018, and has been a huge hit ever since. In llamareadsbooks' Quick Questions, she even mentions it: "The bingo last year was one of my favorite bingos ever that I've participated in, and I'm very much looking forward to it this year!" Well, llama, you and the rest of the bingoers don't have much longer to wait! This year's Bingo will start July 15, with some new categories, some old favorites, and a lot of fun. Keep an eye on the Bingo page for updates!

A Half Cannonball for a Junior Cannonballer
Mazel tov to Junior Cannonballer Bibliophile on her Bat Mitzvah! As part of her community service project, she read and reviewed a half Cannonball (26 books) as a contribution to our mission to stick it to cancer. Her goal-reaching book--Alice Hoffman's Nightbird--had almost everything she likes in a book: "curses, friendship, blood moons, pie, animals." Check out Bibliophile's reviews for more MG/YA titles.
Did You Know: Toggle Toolbar
Do you like things neat and tidy? Do you not usually bother with a ton of fancy formatting in your reviews? Then you can use the Toolbar Toggle button in WordPress to hide the bottom row of buttons. You'll still have access to the basics, so you can bold and center text to your heart's content, but the second row of options will be hidden. And if you really want to declutter your writing space, that button on the far right turns on distraction-free writing mode, where the side menus will go away. And you can always turn things back on if you change your mind!
