Sharing Circular Economy Stories with Scotland

Regional Development Australia Limestone Coast (RDALC) and RDA Murraylands and Riverland (RDAMR) are currently working with the State Government body Green Industries SA (GISA) to drive the creation of a “Circular Economy” blueprint for the two South Australian regions.

On Wednesday 15 June, the RDALC, RDAMR and GISA Circular Economy Working Group had the opportunity to meet with Zero Waste Scotland via MS Teams, to discuss their 2018 Tayside Regional Circular Economy project. Zero Waste Scotland shared their insights into what worked, what didn’t, what they would do differently as well as their ongoing work with Scotland’s regional business community on realising further circular economy opportunities.

Find out more about the Scottish Circular Economy Project here. To find out about the Circular Economy project for the Limestone Coast, contact Lyn Howes, RDALC on (08) 8723 1057 or email lyn@rdalc.org.au

My Generation - Part 4

A few weeks ago we started our in depth look at the the five generations that make up Australia's workplaces. These include:
  • Maturists - born pre 1945
  • Baby Boomers - born between 1946 and 1964
  • Generation X - born between 1964 and 1980
  • Millennials/Generation Y - born between 1981 and 1995
  • Generation Z - born after 1995
These groups all have a very distinct set of values, work aspirations, buying motivations, and customer service preferences. This week you can find out more about the youngest cohort, Generation Z.

Paddock Tree Projects

Do you own a property in the south-east of South Australia with paddock trees? There is still time to receive assistance to protect your large existing trees - but you need to act fast.

Scattered paddock trees are an icon of south-eastern Australia. They are valuable assets with many benefits to farms and local wildlife, including the endangered South-eastern Red-tail Black-Cockatoo. Recent research confirms what many of us have noticed: that paddock trees are declining across the Limestone Coast and there are fewer young ones successfully maturing to replace them.

The Limestone Coast Paddock Tree Project is an opportunity to work together to protect and replace these magnificent trees so we can enjoy their benefits for many years to come.

To register, or for more information, please contact Sam Rothe, Paddock Tree Officer on (08) 8406 0500 or by email samanthar@treesforlife.org.au
Now in their 5th year, the SA Woman Awards are designed to celebrate the achievements of women in business and careers across South Australia. They not only give the winning women and finalists well-deserved recognition, but also a platform and opportunity to showcase their success. They believe that ‘we can’t be what we can’t see’, and the SA Woman Awards are one way SA Woman is working to show what is truly possible as a woman in South Australia.

Nominations close 2 July. Further details can be found here.

Helping the City of Ipswich to Make Resident Centric Decisions - Case Study

Despite immense variation in size, composition and character, Local Governments share one common responsibility – to act in the best interests of the community they are entrusted to represent. In pursuit of this goal, all Local Governments need to understand their community’s current and future needs to inform planning, monitor project delivery and identify areas for advocacy. The City of Ipswich is no different and, as such, decided it wanted to understand its residents on a deeper level to make certain that their 2021-26 Corporate Plan not only responded to the community’s needs of today, but that it was focussed on setting the course for a more prosperous longer term.

The critical questions without answers were:
1. What do our residents believe makes somewhere a good place to live, and how do they experience their local area in that regard?
2. How liveable is the City of Ipswich currently, and what needs to happen to advance quality of life?
3. What role does our residents’ demography, life-stage and location play inform their views, and how do we compare to others?
