Greeting brothers and sisters in Christ!

I am Pastor Scott Clifton. My family and I are excited to be in ministry alongside you at DeBows UMC. My wife, Amanda and I have 6 children, Rebecca, 23, Noah, 19, Scott Jr, 18, Jaelynn 9, Jaden, 7, Tiana, 5. I have been a teacher for the past 11 years. I have served churches as a pastor since 2016 and prior to that, as a youth leader since 2010.

Our family loves to serve. In our current appointment there are serving ministries that we participate with. We collect and support a local food pantry in a partner Methodist Church. We collect and support homeless ministries in New Jersey. We also participate with The Maker’s Place.

We enjoy the outdoors as much now as before COVID. If we aren’t home, we are at the park, taking a walk or riding our bicycles. During football season, you will find us all watching the Dallas Cowboys. Our vacation of choice is camping. Wherever we go, we do all we can to be an example of Jesus and be a blessing to all we meet.

Be a Blessing,
Pastor Scott

Worship Through Giving

We are thankful for your faithful support during these challenging times. Your generous giving has been vital in maintaining our ability to cover expenses and continue our church ministries. You may continue giving in-person at the indoor worship service, by sending your offering check directly to the church, or by using the church online giving feature found in the footer of the church website. It is easy, secure, and appreciated. --- Thank You

If so inspired, you may give online now, by clicking here.

Please keep the following people in your prayers ...

  • Christine Raymond’s father, who has cancer, is recently experiencing pain.
  • Barbara’s brother Joseph who is recovering from a procedure for his heart.
  • Family of Pauline (Teresa McGayhey's mother) - at her passing.
  • Georgina & Ed Bavais (close friends of Guy & Christine Raymond) - Georgina’s father, George, passed away.
  • Pastor Scott Clifton – recovering from lumbar fusion surgery.
  • Brian Ross, of the Libby Prison Minstrel band, recovering from heart attack.
  • Theresa Slover – for successful treatment of a cancerous lump in her neck.
  • Family of Susan Esposito (Joy’s friend) – at her passing.
  • Continued prayer for home-bound church members: Rudy Iannacone; Ann Giarratano; Paul Bartek; Dottie Weeks
~ NOTE ~
Please let Pastor Denise know of any updates to this prayer list. Additions, removals, or status updates. Prayer requests will roll off the list after 4 weeks unless updated or renewed. All prayer requests go directly to the pastor. Please note, prayer requests will go to Pastor Scott starting on J‌uly 1.
Food Pantry Ministry
The DeBows Food Pantry is open on the 2nd & 4th Monday each month, 6‌-8pm. The next Food Pantry distribution is M‌onday, Ju‌ne 27.

DeBows uses an "Appointment Only" system to distribute the food. People can make an appointment by calling 848-373-8844.

Please note: participants need to call for an appointment by 5‌:00 P‌M on the S‌aturday prior to the scheduled food pantry day. This gives the Food Pantry volunteers time to prepare the food for distribution. "Thank You" for your cooperation.

Please contact Jill Palmer if you need further information or would like to volunteer to help with the Food Pantry ministry.
DeBows in Mission
--- JUNE
The Maker's Place

Our Mission Purpose for the month of J‌une is collecting diapers for The Maker's Place, a diaper bank sponsored by GNJUMC. The Maker’s Place oversees a distribution program that gives away thousands of free diapers each month to families who struggle to provide enough diapers for their little ones.

Any brand & size will be accepted. And anyone can give to our collection. If a family member, a friend or a neighbor wishes to join us in this mission, they are most welcomed.

You can bring diapers to the church, and we will continue to collect them through Su‌nday, J‌une 26. Please place them on the floor in the sanctuary, left of the communion rail. We thank you in advance for all you do to further God's work.

--- JULY & AUGUST
UMCOR Hygiene Kits

DeBows will be supporting UMCOR during July & August via their Hygiene Kit program. While Hygiene Kits for UMCOR is a year-round mission activity for our church, we are focusing on July & August because hurricane season is fast approaching. But disasters can happen anytime, and these kits are desperately needed when they occur. Please continue to collect the items needed to make up the kits. A box for completed kits and instructions on how to put it all together is outside the Fellowship Hall. Let’s fill that box!

Our UMCOR Hygiene Kit outreach activity helps to meet the ever-increasing demand for relief items. The Hygiene Kits we put together are forwarded to UMCOR for deployment to those most in need. This has been very successful and rewarding ministry in past years.

Along with collecting items to build kits, we will also be accepting monetary donations. If you wish to donate, please mark clearly on your check or envelope that it is for UMCOR. Each Hygiene Kit is valued at $12, but any and all donations will be greatly appreciated and will be sent to UMCOR along with the hygiene kits.

Please click HERE for more information and a detailed list of items needed to complete the hygiene kits. You will also be able to view a short video of Anita speaking about the need for this mission activity.
Church Flea Market
DeBows will host a Flea Market on Sat‌urday, J‌une 25 from 8 A‌M to 2 P‌M. Table space (no table) for vendors is $10. Please contact Sue Hayward at jerseysue@outlook.com to reserve a space or for more information.

Volunteers are needed for setup (sta‌rting at 7a‌m) and breakdown at 2p‌m. Volunteers will also be needed to man the church tables during the flea market. Please contact Sue if you are available to help.
Music Ministry

DeBows UMC is blessed with talented people who love to praise God. We pray for each other and give back to the Lord the blessings we’ve received. We welcome newcomers to join our music ministry and share and grow their talent for God’s glory. Please contact Grayce by email at music@debowsumc.org for any questions or to discuss opportunities to participate in our music ministry.

Chime Choir — Rehearses Su‌nday morning 8:‌30 to 8:‌45 A‌M and rings the introit to worship on Su‌nday morning (except on Revival Su‌nday). New members are always welcome. Ability to sight read music and prior experience not necessary. Ability to be present and have fun very important!

Praise Band — Rehearses Tuesday nights at 7:‌00 P‌M and plays a five-song set once a month for Revival Sunday, usually the last Sunday of the month. Check email and church calendar for exceptions. All instruments welcome.

* More information about the DeBows music ministry can be viewed here. Modification or cancellation of specific dates will be communicated by Grayce via email. Please check email for any cancellations before coming out.

New Pastor Appointment
Effective J‌uly 1, 2‌022, Rev. Scott Clifton has been appointed to be the pastor of DeBows UMC, in addition to his current church, Groveville UMC.

As a lifelong United Methodist, Scott grew up serving in the church. He is a Drew University Master of Divinity graduate and a local pastor since 2‌017. In 2‌010, he began teaching public school and serving as a Youth Ministry for St. Andrew UMC and from there felt God was calling him to full time ministry.  Scott has a servant heart and believes that when we let God’s love work through us, we can then share that love with others. Scott and his wife, Amanda have six children and love camping and the beach

Also starting in J‌uly, Pastor Denise has been appointed to Jackson UMC and will also continue to serve Pleasant Grove UMC.

We wish both Pastor Denise & Pastor Scott all the best as they begin the transition process.

IMPORTANT TRANSITION POLICY

As of the effective date of a new appointment (Ju‌ly 1), a pastor shall immediately cease all pastoral activity at the previous church, including returning to officiate at baptisms, weddings, funerals, or do pastoral counseling or pastoral visitation in that parish. This will apply to Pastor Denise and Pastor Scott will assume those responsibilities as of Ju‌ly 1.

To read the entire policy statement from the official Pastoral Transition Process document, please click HERE.
