A long-awaited newsletter!
An eclectic and exciting array of updates, call outs, videos, and other Chester-based updates for ya:
WE'RE BACK WITH A BRAND NEW HACK!

We're stoked this is our first post-Covid hack, and even more excited about the venture we're going to help...

Chester City Baths urgently needs our help! One of their two pools, The Pacific, has been closed for emergency restoration and is due to re-open in September.

They've asked for our help to ensure they can remain financially sustainable. These baths are an important piece of heritage, unique to our city. They are run by a team of committed volunteers, passionate do-gooders just like us.

We must do everything we can to help them stay open - help us FILL THE PACIFIC and join our hack!

HELP SUPERTREES CROWDFUND

In October 2017 you may remember we hacked a project called Supertrees for Steve Hughes. The project was a great success and is now a thriving, biodiverse public space Chester people enjoy.

Forest City Projects, the CIC that was formed to look after the ongoing management of the Supertrees project (which has gone on to create the Dodleston Hare project) has teamed up with CWAC and Spacehive to crowdfund an ambitious street art project (see pic above!).

They're looking to raise money to commission artist Sam Porter to create the illusion of a lost world of nature, beyond one the concrete subway walls at the entrance to the Supertrees space.

Please support the crowdfund if you can and spread the word about it to your friends and colleagues. The crowdfund is looking to raise almost £9000 and the deadline of the end of August is getting closer by the second!

GFNrs DOING GOOD IN CHESTER

Our GFNr Niall MacFadyen has been beavering away on Chester's proposed new Hydo Hub. He updated us last week to say "We're in discussion to raise funds to take the design and costs to the next level of detail, and to apply for planning. We believe we can raise the required capital and operate the building with enough revenue to keep it viable."

Take a look at the Hydro Hub prospectus - Niall would love your feedback, send it to hydrohubchester@gmail.com.

UNÁ SMASHES TED TALK

Back in 2021, we were asked by the TEDx team if Good For Nothing Chester would talk about how people can get involved in their city and communities.

It's fair to say Uná's no wallflower and she's no stranger to public speaking, but even she admits she was very nervous! Nerves aside, she bravely took up the challenge and delivered what we think is a corker of a TEDx talk called 'Democratising City Strategies'. See for yourselves, video below!

RADICAL TIMES, RADICAL CHANGE

Chester Visual Arts (CVA) have long been campaigning for a permanent art gallery in the city. They have been running a series of talks entitled 'Radical Times, Radical Change'. And if the first three are anything to go by (we went!), the final talk should not be missed!

CVA is excited to welcome leading curator & writer Susanna Brown, to conclude our 2022 lecture series, who will provide insight into how the pandemic has impacted contemporary photographic practice. Head here…⬇️ to get your ticket! 🎙

SUMMER MUSIC SERIES

You might recall Good for Nothing spoke at The Good Life Festival at the Hawarden Estate a few years ago. Well, our friends are running another stellar summer music series.

In collaboration with Roman Candle Promotions, they have six standout evenings of music to enjoy from 29 July. Think Americana, folk, psych folk, acoustic, blues, big bean bags, fire pits, great food, great drink and watching the sun go down.

The tickets are just £3 with all proceeds going to local charities. Get involved, and see you there!
