First, From the Heart
Wherever you reside on this magnificent planet, this coming week ushers in the annual summer or winter solstice. It’s a marking of the natural cycles that beckon us to take pause, just as the Sun’s daily path pauses this time of year at its northern limit before reversing direction. The Latin roots sol (“sun”) and sister (“to stand still”) combine into the word solstice – another potent reminder to slow down, pause, and even stand still every now and then.
In our hyper-busy world, we often still have trouble taking this monumental cue from Nature herself. The overculture values busyness and stretch goals. Most organizations amplify this orientation and place unrealistic expectations on staff. How many of us have accumulated unused vacation days for fear of falling behind or appearing less than Superhuman?
Thankfully, things are changing on many dimensions. While your organization may not be wholeheartedly offering you more time to reset and recharge, perhaps you have learned to give yourself permission to put your wellbeing first. In this issue we focus on how we thrive when we integrate head, heart, and body – as we are naturally meant to be. May you enjoy this solstice pause, and heed the call to pause from wherever, and whenever, you will find it of benefit.
With love,
Laura

Practice Matters
Deep Inside
Funny how humankind has explored so much of outer space, but not nearly as much of the oceans that make up the majority of our planet. I must admit, in my personal sphere, I tend to orient to that which is outside and beyond myself. Much less attention is paid to the inner realms.
It’s hard to sustain focus on the interior aspect of our being. We get distracted by the always vigilant outwardly focused threat detection system that is wired for our survival. We have senses that connect us to the outer world, and they tease us with awareness of pleasure and pain.
I want to be better acquainted with the desires of my heart, and the intuition that flows from center of my belly. Tuning into these aspects of knowing are so powerful, and yet often getting a clear and consistent signal is challenging. I’ll practice returning again – with intention, attention, and energy to explore the depths within. I’m curious to see what shows up!
When can we practice? Always!
