A 24-Hour Prayer Vigil  in support of those attending
The Poor People’s Campaign:
A National Call for Moral Revival

On Friday night, June 17th, Kim Hayes and Tahani Sticpewich, along with members of St. James Black Mountain and a few people from other congregations, will board a bus bound for Washington, D.C. to stand in solidarity with poor and low-wage workers in the United States. They will march on Saturday, returning to Black Mountain around midnight. The Poor People’s Campaign stands for eliminating racial, gender, and economic discrimination and calls for reforms including:
• Healthcare for all
• A living wage for all
• Affordable housing for all
• Voting rights
• Climate justice agenda
• Comprehensive immigration reform

Not all of us can go to Washington in person. One way we can support our participants is by holding them in prayer while they travel and march.
We invite you to light a candle and pray for our justice pilgrims.
May God bless us all.
James Cannon

Friday evening, June 17th
The bus leaves from St. James around midnight. We invite you to pause near your candle and pray:
I offer thanks for all those traveling to Washington, D.C. May they feel my support. May their journey be safe and may they be protected from all harm. May they be filled with God’s love and guided by the Holy Spirit. May the march be a source of healing for our nation and a blessing both for those who are poor in body or circumstance and for those who are poor in spirit.

Saturday morning, June 18th
The bus arrives around 8am; the marchers gather at 9. The march lasts from 10-3. Please pray:
I offer prayers for Bishop Barber and all who speak. May their words and personal stories touch hearts, enlighten minds and quicken consciences. May the march be positive and peaceful. May the march stir our country to action. May Congress and the nation take note of the urgency of the interlocking issues of justice that affect not some, but all of us.

Saturday night, June 18th
It’s been a long day of marching. Please pray:
I offer prayers for safe travel and a deepening understanding of our connection as human beings. May the travel time together be one of deep and intentional process, that the experience and wisdom gained can be shared in our community, and enliven us such that this event shifts us not just in one moment in time, but for all time.
