Dear <<First Name>>,

Earlier this week, my Ministry announced that we are contributing $25 million towards a new learning facility for students studying biomedical engineering at UBC. The five-storey building will feature classrooms and learning spaces on the lower floors, with research labs and spaces on the upper floors. The building will consolidate classroom and lab spaces currently hosted in 24 buildings on the Vancouver campus.

This project is part of the long-term StrongerBC Economic Plan that builds on B.C.'s strong economic recovery. It also works to address two long-standing challenges – inequality and climate change – by closing the skills gap, building resilient communities, and helping businesses and people transition to clean-energy solutions.

This new home will ignite innovation, turn ideas into action, and improve the health care services and technologies we all rely on.

Here are some things I'd like to share with you from the past week:
B.C. invests in First Nations language, arts, culture and heritage revitalization

B.C. has incredible language diversity and is home to 34 First Nations languages, which make up more than half of all First Nations languages in Canada. Past colonial policy and the residential school system tried to extinguish Indigenous languages and cultures.

That’s why we are providing $34.75 million to the First Peoples Cultural Council (FPCC) to support First Nations communities to revitalize their languages, cultures, arts and heritage.

Minister's statement on May's Labour Force Survey results

With the lowest unemployment in three years, BC continues to lead Canada’s economic recovery. Instead of making deep cuts and giving tax breaks to those at the top, our government chooses to invest in people.

We're going to keep working to build a stronger, more sustainable economy that works for everyone in BC.

Minister Blair announces over $200 million to support disaster recovery and climate resilience in British Columbia

Last year’s wildfires and floods demonstrated how important is to prepare our communities against future extreme weather events. Public Safety Canada is delivering an advance payment of $207 million to the Government of British Columbia through the Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangements (DFAA) to support 2021 wildfire recovery efforts in British Columbia.

Rating agencies validate B.C.'s financial plan to support people, businesses businesses

By investing in the services and infrastructure people need, B.C. has maintained a strong economic position. All four of the main international and domestic rating agencies have reaffirmed B.C.’s stable credit ratings.
