Juneteenth Family Fun Night
Missouri City Juneteenth Celebration Foundation (MCJCF) will be hosting the Annual Family Night Out tonight from 5 p.m. onwards at Hunters Glen Park, 1340 Independence Blvd.

Father’s Day Fish Off
Celebrate with your loved ones at the lake tomorrow, Saturday, June 18 from 8 a.m. to noon at Community Park, 1700 Glenn Lakes Lane. Slots are almost full; call 281.403.8637 for more details. Pre-Register
 
Juneteenth “One Mile of Smiles” Parade
The MCJCF 19th annual parade will begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 18 by the Wells Fargo Building, 2440 Texas Pkwy. and will end at the Hunters Glen Park. Road closures will be in place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in both directions on Texas Parkway from Court Road to Independence Boulevard.

Juneteenth Concert in the Park
Following the parade, the MCJCF 19th Annual Concert will be held at Hunters Glen Park, 1340 Independence Blvd. For more information about this year’s events, call 281.545.5009 or visit www.MCJCF.com.

Railroad Crossing Closures on June 18 & 19; Plan Commutes Accordingly

The MCTX Public Works Department will be collaborating with the Union Pacific Railroad Company on two maintenance closures at the following crossings on June 18 and June 19 respectively.

Cravens Road
The railroad crossing at Cravens Road and U.S. Highway 90 will be closed from 3 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, for track maintenance. The detour routes are via South Gessner Road or Citypark Drive as follows:

  • To Cravens Road:
    • Cravens Road can be accessed by using Citypark Drive via Sam Houston Tollway (southeast-bound feeder); or
    • Cravens Road can be accessed by using South Gessner Road via Sam Houston Tollway or from Highway 90. 
  • From Cravens Road:
    • Sam Houston Tollway can be accessed by using Citypark Drive or by South Gessner Road (heading northeast); and
    • Highway 90 can be accessed by using South Gessner Road (heading southwest).

South Gessner Road
The railroad crossing at South Gessner Road and U.S. Highway 90 will be closed from 3 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 19 for repair work. As this is a much-needed major restoration, it will involve a full shutdown of this crossing. Delays are expected. Motorists are encouraged to use detours and advised to be cautious if traveling through these areas. Read More

City Appeals to Residents to Serve on Local Boards and Commissions

Missouri City is continuously seeking citizen engagement in the local governing process. To that end, the City is now accepting applications to fill several vacancies on its volunteer Boards, Commissions and Committees. The deadline to apply is June 27, 2022.

To educate the community on this priority effort and to clarify the application process, here is a list of frequently asked questions:

Is there an online application available for Boards, Commissions & Committees?
Yes, citizens may apply online via the City Website. 

Which specific Boards, Commissions & Committees have openings now? 
These are the current open positions: 

  • Arts & Culture Commission – Positions 8 and 9 
  • Construction Board of Adjustments & Appeals – Positions 5 and Alternate
  • Missouri City Parks Foundation – Positions 8, 9, and 11-15
  • Parks Board – Positions 1, 5, 9 and 10

Non-Emergency City Offices to Close on Monday, June 20

All non-emergency City offices will be closed on Monday, June 20 for Juneteenth. This includes:

  • City Hall, 1522 Texas Pkwy.
  • Inspections & Permits, 1522 Texas Pkwy.
  • Municipal Court, 3845 Cartwright Rd.
  • Animal Shelter, 1923 Scanlin Rd.

The Recreation & Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr. will be closed on Sunday, June 19 and Monday, June 20. For more information on programs and events, visit www.mctxparks.com.

The Quail Valley Golf Course and the Bluebonnet Grille, 2880 La Quinta Dr., will be open during regular business hours. For more information or to book a tee time, please call 281.403.5910.  

Residents who participate in the Municipal Solid Waste Program will receive regular trash pickup on Monday, June 20. To ensure service, citizens are encouraged to set garbage and recyclable materials out by 7 a.m. For assistance, residents may contact GFL Environmental at 281.403.5800 or wcacshouston@gflenv.com.

Looking for Summer Activities for Your Kids?

Keep your children active and entertained this summer by choosing from a variety of camps. Beginning June 6, the award winning MCTX Parks & Recreation team will be hosting several camps that parents may choose from depending on their children’s age and interests. Summer Day Camp is currently full and has a waiting list. However, there are other camps including weekly trips; outdoor activities; adaptive sports; LEGO activities; dance; sports performance and more.

CDBG Applications Now Open; Deadline Thursday, June 30

The applications for several Community Development Block Grant programs are now open. The deadline for the Public Services Program and the Post-Secondary Educational & Vocational Scholarship Program is Thursday, June 30. For more details and to download the application, visit the City Website.
