Creating Art and Equitable Access to Local Creative Things
Your voice matters ~ Survey Ends June 30th
Thanks to my patrons, as a member of the Allegany County Wellness Committee, I helped ensure that the arts and holistic practices were included in the Community Health Assessment survey.
Used to determine the Community Health Improvement Plan
and Community Services program,
this survey informs how wellness funds are spent
in Allegany County, NY.
In addition to many questions regarding chronic illness, physical fitness, and preventive care; there are also questions about how the arts support your wellness and opportunities to speak about holistic resources. Please help us reach our goal. More than ½ way there!
As of June 14th we have 362 completed surveys. Our goal is 500 surveys (about 1% of our population)
and the last day for the survey is Thursday, June 30, 2022.
Allegany County Residents please Scan the QR code on the flyer below to complete the survey on-line. Just open your smartphone camera and put the QR code in the frame of the picture then a link will appear to access the survey

Years ago, when I was stumbling (literally) along to find ways to creatively adapt to life with arachnoiditis; I discovered this program. Though my initial excitement was quickly stifled when I found it was not available for residents of Allegany County, I became determined to find out if there was a way to change that....eventually.
And... now...Here we are.
SheilaLynnK Art Studio is working with the Arts Services Initiative of Western NY and the Allegany Arts Association to bring the Erie and Niagara Counties Arts Access Pass Program to Allegany County, NY.
As a participating partner organization,
future SheilaLynnK Art Studio and Belfast Organization for Artists
events will be accessible via this program.
Providing a listing of affordable events and activities, free transportation, and admission to participating locations, this initiative is based on the belief that, "Participation in the arts is not just a luxury, but a human right and need. As such, the arts are not just for those who can pay, the arts are for all."
[....]
"Arts Services Inc.'s Arts Access program aims to break the barriers of inaccessibility to the region's arts and culture sector. These barriers often include money, transportation, and knowledge of events. We partner with local theaters, galleries, and other arts and culture organizations to offer free or reduced-cost opportunities to low-income Western New York residents and their families. Arts Services Inc. envisions a region where anyone can engage with the arts." How to become a passholder. This free pass is available to anyone who receives income-based assistance, such as SNAP, HEAP, WIC, Medicaid, and more. Find out more How to become a partner organization. ASIarts and cultural partners make this program work. As a program partner, you would provide a limited number of complimentary tickets and/or admission to Arts Access passholders. You can choose the events and number of passes that you are able to donate each month. In addition to exposing new audiences to your work, you can use this support in funding requests to show how you are supporting and making your work and mission accessible to the entire community. By supporting my work on Patreon, patrons like you make it possible for me to set aside the time and resources to offer our local community free creative classes and activities like this one.
As this was quite a popular class the first time we did it, the David A. Howe Library Adult reading program, with the 2022 theme of "Oceans of Possibility", has decided to ask me to offer it again.
Local patrons, please contact the library to sign up.
Cherish the Little Things. Don't sweat the small stuff.
