NH Lakes and YOU!
Tuesday, July 12th at 6:30

New Hampshire is home to some of the cleanest and healthiest lakes in the country! Whether you live along the water, or miles from the shoreline, NH LAKES President Andrea LaMoreaux will highlight simple actions you can take in your home, on your property, and out on the water to help keep New Hampshire’s lakes—including the lakes in Antrim—clean and healthy. Be sure to bring your lake questions!

Andrea joined NH LAKES in February 2007 and brings a comprehensive understanding of how to effectively work with volunteers, the ecology and health of the state’s lakes, and protecting and improving lake health. She coordinated the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services Volunteer Lake Assessment Program for six years before joining NH LAKES.

Andrea holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and Policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master of Environmental Management degree in Water Resources from Duke University. She has taken several continuing education classes in environmental education and nonprofit management. She is a 2016 graduate of the Leadership New Hampshire Program and currently serves on the Newfound Lake Region Association Board of Trustees. In her free time, she tries to find time with her husband (who comes from the Finger Lakes Region of New York) and their daughter to enjoy Lake Sunapee and Seneca Lake, New York, but they mostly chauffeur their daughter around New England for hockey and lacrosse practices and games.

Presenter: Pamela Weeks
Quilts made for use by soldiers during the Civil War are very rare-only twenty are known to exist, and Pam Weeks has studied most of them in person. This illustrated lecture outlines the origins of the U. S. Sanitary Commission at the beginning of the Civil War and examines the roles women played on the home front, and as nurses. The stories of fourteen actual Civil War soldiers' quilts will be highlighted in this program.

Pamela Weeks is the Binney Family Curator of the New England Quilt Museum. Author of the book Civil War Quilts and articles on quilt history, she lectures nationally on quilt-making and quilt history. Weeks uses quilts to tell stories of the Civil War, women's history, and industrial history.

Antrim's Anti-Racism Study Group
The Antrim Antiracism Study Group will be reading the novel The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett in June and July. Bennett is a young African American writer whose work has received recognition by the National Book Foundation's "35 Under 35" honorees. The Vanishing Half is the story of twin sisters and the different life choices each one makes. It covers multiple generations of a family over the decades from the 1950s to the 1990s, moving from the Deep South to Southern California. The theme of racial identity comes to light in a unique way in this story.

The book is organized in 6 sections - we will read Parts I, II, and III for June 16th and Parts IV, V, and VI for July 21st.
If you have questions or want to join the group, contact Linda Bundy at (603) 588-2254.
