The Liturgical Year...
Summer is upon us, and we have come to the end of six of the seven cycles of our Liturgical Year (Year C, which will be followed by Year A then Year B then back to Year C), and which we started on Sunday the 28th November 2021 with the Advent Season. This was followed immediately by the Christmas Season, or the Incarnation, then Epiphany starting on Sunday the 2nd of January 2022.
After Candlemas, or the Presentation of Christ in the Temple on Sunday the 2nd of February, we had a short period of four Sundays of “Ordinary Time” before we entered the Lent Season on Ash Wednesday, closely followed by Holy Week, then the Easter Season, which ended on Whit Sunday, or Pentecost, on Sunday the 5th of June.

We are now into the longest season of the year, again called Ordinary Time, which started on Trinity Sunday, the 12th of June. This Season of the Liturgical Year takes us through the next 23 Sundays, ending the Liturgical Year with All Saints’ Day, Remembrance Sunday, and finally Christ the King on Sunday the 20th of November. After this we start with Liturgical Year A on the following Sunday.

Except for the four Sundays of Ordinary Time between Candlemas and Ash Wednesday, we have worked our way through all of the other liturgical colours, which include White (or Gold), Purple and Red. Ordinary Time is marked by Green. This “Green Time” covers half the year, but is of course interspersed with the occasional festival day, celebrating Apostles, Angels, the Transfiguration, the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Holy Cross and other Holy Day celebrations marked in Red.

Nineteen of the Sundays in Ordinary Time are simply named after their chronological placement after Trinity Sunday; that is, “Trinity 1”, “Trinity 2” etcetera until the “Last after Trinity” on Sunday the 23rd of October. So half of our year is celebrated in Green and named after the Trinity. I find this truly inspiring and remarkable.

The colour Green, in the Bible, is the colour that symbolises prosperity, growth and life, and it is no co-incidence that this Season corresponds with our Summer, and then Autumn, when the harvest is brought in. However, for those of us born and bred in the Southern Hemisphere, things do unfortunately  get a bit confusing at this time of the year! But be that as it may, during this long period of “Ordinary” time, we have the opportunity to celebrate the presence of the Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - dwelling amongst us, bringing us growth and new life in our worship and our daily lives.

I believe this period speaks to us of the fact that the Kingdom of God is with us right now, that it is, in fact, the “Ordinary” stuff of our lives, closer to us as than our breath. It is the living out of the presence of the Father, whose tent is pitched in the midst of us (who has Tabernacled with us), the presence of Jesus Christ with us every day, bringing us Resurrection Life each day of our lives, and the Holy Spirit living in us, who teaches us all things, and reminds us daily of the Father and the Son - our Triune God, who is Love.

In this Season, we celebrate the fact that the Supernatural has become Natural, or Ordinary, that the Kingdom of God is with us here and now. This Season has been called “Kingdomtide”, although this is not a universal usage in all denominations. But I love that half of our year is spent living, reflecting on, and practising what it means to be the Church, the Body of Christ, right here, right now, on this beautiful Earth of ours; that the Kingdom is here; that the King is already on His throne!

“He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.” Psalm 23:2

Be Blessed! Be Encouraged! Be Joyful!

Praise Service
On Sunday 5th June we were delighted to welcome TIMS choir to join us in celebrating the Queens Platinum Jubilee at a Praise Service in Alhaurín.

We enjoyed listening to, and singing, some of the Queen's favourite music. Our event may not have been as grand as many that weekend but we had a wonderful celebration followed by refreshments and fellowship in the evening sunshine. The photos of members of our Ministry Team leaving the service were described as marching, dancing and strutting their stuff. You can decide which is which!
Queen's Jubilee celebrations
On Saturday June 4th we held a wonderful afternoon at St Andrew's, Los Boliches to celebrate our Queen's 70th Jubilee.

We began with Peter Hammond raising a toast to the Queen, with a glass of Cava for all, followed by entertainment  by 'Touch of Class' singing songs reminiscent of the years spanned by the Queen's reign.
During the interval High Tea was served, with lashings and lashings of cream, jam, scones and Victoria sponges, and tea of course, before more entertainment by Touch of class.
It was a happy afternoon and everyone spoke of it being a huge success. We are very grateful for everyone who worked so hard to put it all together - I think we did Her Majesty proud. Well done team.
Community Recognition
For many years now the congregation at Alhaurin have been collecting food for those in need. Not only do we support some families who have been brought to our attention, but also 'Caritas' who are currently helping 100 families in Alhaurin.
Janice visits Caratas every week with donations of food, clothing, toiletries etc. On 16th June Janice and Caroline, supported by William, Lissy and Loma were delighted to represent everyone at a Mass at the Parochial Church in Alhaurin, where they were presented with a plaque thanking us. It was so nice to be recognised as part of the community. We thanked them for the honour and said we hoped to continue with help for many years to come.
Behind the scenes
You may not be aware of the many things that go on behind the scenes in the Chaplaincy to keep it running smoothly.

Here are a few photos of some of them; Pew Sheets being prepared and printed, repairs being done to the Centre, work at the Chaplaincy house in preparation for our Locums, The Chaplaincy Car being taken for its ITV, the newsletter being prepared and the website updated, coffee being served, and a visit to hand over of the cheque following the TIMS concert.

All these jobs, and many more, are done by a team of willing volunteers and some outside agencies, for which we are very grateful. We do not want to miss anyone out, so thank you to everyone who helps us. Watch out in the next newsletter for more photos…
