Welcome to the BAMEed Network Newsletter
|
|
The BAMEed Network is a grassroots network aimed at ensuring our diverse communities are represented as a substantive part of the education workforce for teachers and leaders in education. We seek to address the inequities in the recruitment of Black, Asian and minority ethnic colleagues into the teaching profession and the lack of support to ensure progress in those careers.
We connect with other education organisations and individuals through events, regional networks across the UK, signposting and mentoring support. Join us on this journey to drive change in education.

Antiracism education resources for primary schools
Antiracism Education has been working with a team of teaching colleagues from a school in Haringey, London, and a school in Sheffield to create a scheme of free anti-racism lesson resources. These have been designed for use in PSHE, Form Time, Citizenship, Circle Time and Assemblies. We have created 16 Primary lessons (KS1 and KS2) and 16 Secondary lessons (KS3 and KS4). The lessons (PPTs, lesson plans and accompanying materials) are free to use here
What Happens When American Children Learn About Racism?
One present source of tension is the question of whether and how we should teach children about racism, as well as other less rosy aspects of the nation’s history. Politicians, parents and other influential actors have strong and divided views about this. Read more here
A powerful set of actions undertaken by Council to better protect residents from harm and racism
The work follows the strip search of Child Q, a Black teenage girl, by police officers in a Hackney secondary school. An investigation found that racism and ‘adultification bias’ – where Black children are treated more harshly than their white peers – were ‘likely’ factors in what happened. Read more here
Keeping an eye on EDI and anti-racism
There is a value om looking at EDI through an intersectional lens. However, until we stop twinning antiracism work with other areas, we are unlikely to give it the depth of focus required. Read more here
